The PS3 does not need intercoolers. It's designed well enough that it can get the heat out on it's own; if anything an intercooler could shorten it's lifespan by impeding it's own cooling processes.

Save your cash- if anything the intercoolers shorten the life of your system, not extend it. The PS3 has enough cooling power inside on its own.

Well, as stated previously the PS3 doesn't overheat so long as you don't put it somewhere stupid (like near a heater or something) unlike another console we all know =p

I heard that the intercooler screws up your system faster. But I guess it's peoples opinions.

In all honesty, i've heard several stories of people buying these cooling devices for they're 360's and the horror stories afterwards. Not once have i heard a bad experience w/ any of the intercoolers w/ a ps3. I'm not saying it doesnt happen with ps3's, jus stating that if they do indeed overheat ps3's, then i've yet to hear of it. In my person opinion I think they're a waste of time/money and jus another atempt from companies like nyko or whoever to capitalize on your paranoia. If you really want to prevent overheating then dont keep you system in and inclosed space and dont go on 10+ hrs gaming binges and you'll be fine.

I don't have a intercooler and I never turn my system off. The fan hardly ever kicks up to the second speed and never goes to the higher speeds. The system stays fairly cool inside although there is a good bit of heat pushed out the back of the system.

on the 360 one intercooler can melt itself to the 360 if you accidently leave it turned off or something...

None of them- the system is fine on its own as long as it's in a somewhat open area. If you do have it in a home entertainment center, get it out of there and put the system someplace where it has room to get rid of the warm air.
