Interested in a PSP, Can Someone Answer These Questions?

Hey guys,

I would like to get a PSP this weekend, but I have some questions first:

1. Is the Shoutcast radio currently available? How does it work? Can you listen without headphones?

2. How does the WIFI work? Can I only get online if I am in a non secure hot spot?

3. Can I play avi movie files on it?

4. is the screen hard on the eyes?

5. can I watch youtube on it?

6. is it good for checking email through the internet?

As you can see, im interested mainly in the other stuff it can do besides games. I"m looking for a cheap alternative to Iphone. Thanks!

1 the radio is kinda like a regular fm radio where you can choose your type of music you want and then it has different amount of radio stations. and yes it can be put thru the psp stereos.

2 you can do secure and non secure wifi. as long as you know the secure info before hand to input it currectly when setting up the wifi on the psp.

3 illegal stuff i guess.

4 its not to bad on the eyes, its decently wide. its the best out of the handhelds currently out.

5 the psp can not stream any embedded videos or any streaming video.

6 its probably not the greatest thing to do the email thing with being slow on typing and just loading of intenet stuff.

its pretty good for what it does, but its not iphone killer.

1. Just need a internet connection, uses online radio stations. You dont need headphones.

2.Yes or get your own wireless box.

The other questions have been answered, but about the avi files, you can convert pretty much any video file on your computer to an MP4 file, then you will be able to play it on your psp.

The radio on the PSP is an internet radio. You connect wirelessly to the internet and then you get tons of different genres and stations to choose from. And when i say tons, i mean tons! Also you can listen with headphones as well.

2. How does the WIFI work? Can I only get online if I am in a non secure hot spot?

To get online you must be able to connect to a wireless connection. It doesnt matter if it is secure or not, as long as you have the password to a secure network. You can also wirelessly hook up to other PSP's and you dont need to have any internet connection for that.

3. Can I play avi movie files on it?

avi? Dont know what that means, but anyways, movies can be watched either by UMD disks or an MP4 format. If you really want to watch a video but its not a supported PSP format, there are tons of really good free file converting programs such as "PSP Video 9."

4. is the screen hard on the eyes?

No, the screen is not hard on eyes. In fact it is very enjoyable, but of course, like all screens its best to be somewhere with plenty of light. Also, there are different screen brightness settings that you can customize.

5. can I watch youtube on it?

If you download certain programs or...... Just visit "pspupdates.com" for all those types of questions.

6. is it good for checking email through the internet?

hmm, email is not such a great idea, but sites like lucasarts forums, theforce.net, google, news sites, etc all work pretty well.

My advice..yes, i would reccomend that u buy the PSP. There are enough games comming out that you will probably regret not having it.
