I never used to be a handheld guy but I got a DS recently and I love it, and I'm thinking of eventually getting a PSP as well. Due to my life-style and living situation, handhelds are just so much more convenient for me, and I'm looking for them to be my main source of video games. I know the DS won't be enough to satisfy all of my gaming needs so I figure a DS and a PSP will be ideal. Anyways here are my questions:

When do you think a price drop could happen? The price of the PSP right now is a bit steep for me, and I do not want to be used. My plan is to hold of on the purchase until the next price drop.

Are the PSP grand theft auto games, free-roaming type games like the PS2 games or are they structured in linear levels.

Are there any other free-roaming type games made for the PSP?

Are there any hardware updates expected on the PSP? Such as slimmer system, better battery-life, brighter screen.

Do you guys know of any traveling cases that hold both the PSP and the DS? I know I can get a generic case but it would be sweet if there was one case that sleek and the perfect fit for both handhelds.

I know the DS has taken the lead in the hand-held war, but is the PSP still going strong? Is there any danger of it dying out in the near future (i.e. within the next 2 years).

Thanks in advance for any replies I receive!

Hey man
To answer your first question.. the price dropped recently i think you can now get a PSP for like just over a hundred bucks...but holding out to see if it drops again isnt a totally bad idea...i pain 249 for mine but that was the entertainment pack one

Im not sure i never played any of the GTA games on PSP but if they were free roam on ps2 chances are they are free roam on the psp...as for other free roam games..i know Need For Speed Carbon has the free roam feature...and thats a really good game....

I think theres a slimmer system out already...if im not mistaken i think there calling the psp lite or something like that....and the psp screens are pretty bright already...doubt they will make it any brighter...

Im sure some smart man out there thought about it....search it on google...you should find it there..

And definitely dont count on the psp going out of  forbidden>HOPE THAT WAS HELPFUL BRO!

Are there any other free-roaming type games made for the PSP? I dont think so, at least not any like GTA

The GTA games are free roam.  There may be a price drop in the future but no offical word yet.  Rumors of a redesigned model but I think Sony will release the different colors in the US to snatch up more sales before even thinking of a redesign.  So a redesign can be a ways off.  The PSP will be around for at least 2 more years.  Sony had 0% of the handheld market 2 years ago.  They now have 33%.  I dont think Sony has any plans to give up on the handheld market.

Who knows when Sony will drop the price of the psp, if I had to guess I would say by this fall. As for a redesign doesn't seem likely now they may release the different colors here (US) euro has 3 (white/black/Pink) japan has 6 (black/white/blue/pink/silver/gold). There is already a slightly improved battery for the PSP but it cost as much as a game. The GTA game are just like the PS2 games but the story are different, as for other free roaming games Gun offers free Roaming but the town are ghost towns.. They dont make a travel case to hold both It would be cool if someone did. Yes the PSP is doing well even though gaming media doesn't give it credit, there's a great library of games on the PSP and the List just keeps growing.

At the moment, there doesn't seem to be any sign of a price drop.  If you're in Cananda, the price for the Entertainment pack actually went UP in price.

Are the PSP grand theft auto games, free-roaming type games like the PS2 games or are they structured in linear levels.

The GTA games are very similar, though you will have to deal with the lack of dual-analog controls.

Are there any other free-roaming type games made for the PSP?

Are there any hardware updates expected on the PSP? Such as slimmer system, better battery-life, brighter screen.

If there are, it won't happen till very late 07 or beyond.  Sony has more problems to deal with than working on a redesign.

Do you guys know of any traveling cases that hold both the PSP and the DS? I know I can get a generic case but it would be sweet if there was one case that sleek and the perfect fit for both handhelds.

As of right now, I don't think there are any cases that holds both systems.  Would be interesting if there were one.

I know the DS has taken the lead in the hand-held war, but is the PSP still going strong? Is there any danger of it dying out in the near future (i.e. within the next 2 years).

The PSP is still going strong, though the DS is a lot stronger.  The PSP will still be alive for quite some time.  Sony won't give up.

Regarding games, don't be fooled into thinking their aren't any good games on the PSP.  There are a lot of good games.  If only Sony would get that through their thick skulls and started to promote their good games rather than their crappy ones such as Gangs of London.

Thanks in advance for any replies I receive!Zerostatic0

The UMD movie support on PSP seems to be coming to an end because bad sales have made companys feel the need to pull out.

The grand theft auto titles are impressive on psp if that is the games you like. I have VICE city stories and i would say the game plays very well and there are only some problems with pop up graphics. The radio stations, free roaming, boats, cars, planes, varied missions, are still there.

The PSP has a good selection of games and i would say better than the DS lot, i also own a DS and am only waiting on the best games for it now like Zelda. I like nintendo but i fould alot of the DS games shallow.

PSP can offer a more indepth experience. I have Pro Evolution Soccer. GTA: VCS., Toca 3, Metal Gear PO, World Championship snooker 07, Killzone, Tekken, amd Dungeon Seige....i am happy with them.
