Generally, any broadband connection is fine. The speed is not really important in video games. 1 MB/s is easily enough.

The ping also depends on the receiver and has nothing to do with the bandwith.

You're fine with what you got. Enjoy.

Just to add a little something- as long as you have NAT type 1 or 2 you should be good. Wired is definitely preferred, I've had issues with wireless even with a moderately high speed.

Megabits or megabytes?

You sayd 7MB/s, MB is usually megabytes, Mb is usually megabits.

Either way ping is more important.

Yes everyone is right, your "ping" is way more important then your bandwidth.

I'm stuck out in the boonies, and I've been stuck with Hughes Net satellite, with this I get around 5mb/s and a horrid 700-900ms ping, with this the only games I have found that work decent has been GTA 4 & KZ3, don't know why they work, but for some minor miracle they do.

However, recently I finally have an unbelievably horrible broadband service available to me with a whopping 1mb/s but the ping is in the 30-60ms range, and online games are finally working smoothly.

So...yeah, ping is everything with online gaming, of course as much bandwidth as you can get is great for downloading games, but fortunately you only need a tiny bit of bandwidth for online gaming to run smoothly.
