Hi, i own a 40gb ps3 and was wondering if i need any extra memory to install games such as gta 4 witch takes about 5 gigs our gran turismo 5 pro wich is like 8 gigs could i connect my ipod 30 gigs and use it to install these big games in order to save memory?

Or would be easier to just buy an external drive via usb?

Or is it again alot more easier to just change the 2.5 inch internal hd, if so how does the re-install on the new hd work and does this void warranty?

THANKS ALOT!!!

1. you can't use an ipod 2. external har drives are very handy and you should get one, and 3. the warranty should be fine if you have all of the original parts

I thought that as a method to crackdown on piracy, if the iPod was set to "external drive" mode, it wouldn't work in iTunes anymore......Could be wrong though.

Anyways, if seems as though the simplest solution (in the long term) would be to upgrade the internal drive. It's actually been made quite simple. There are instructions in the manual on how (and better ones here on gamespot, pics and all), it'll take a standard (2.5"" SATA) laptop drive (which, word on the street, support up to 1TB (~1,0000 GB)), and it won't void your warranty. But don't just take my, a complete goober on the internet, word for it, Sony will back me up on their site too.

go for a usb external hard drive, you can put loads of films music and pictures on it. if you do the best one to go for is the 'western digital mybook' its shiny black like the ps3 with a cool blue light on the front and most of all it works on the ps3 without problems unlike some hdd's which need re-formatting. ive got the 1tb version which aint cheap but am planning on putting 100's of films ect on it. already got around a 100 films on it and theres loads of room left!

You CAN NOT install games via external drive. LuckyLy

that what i needed to know, its not worth buying an external since all i really want to do is use it to install the games.

So verdict: buy an internal drive?
