I have checked the Sony PSP site and several other websites and cannot find a use for the IR Port or how to set it up to be used.  So what is it for?

as i understand it if you have an early enough firmware you can use a homebrew app that turns the psp into a universal remote.  other than that, sony hasn't come up with anything yet.

I don't think that Sony have produced any software to make use of it yet but who knows what will come in the future. I for one would like to see a remote control application :)

I would love to have the IR port turn on my slim PS2 or Sony TV.

Why would everyone like to use it as a remote so much? Thats like saying "I wish I had a Ferrari, but most of all I wish it had a switch to open my garage door."

They havent released any ways to use it yet.  Maybe with the ps3 you can use it, as the ps3 also has a IR port.

I bet it's in sony's plans for the future because it doesn't have any current use so when they designed the PSP this was on there mind otherwise they wouldn't have done it

A PSP keyboard was also on their minds when they designed the PSP but that got canceled. Most likely same thing happened with anything that uses the IR Port. Maybe they discovered it would make the PSP security vulnerable or something.

The infamous IR port is bugging me since the day I purchased my PSP. My theory is  Sony included this port to transfer pictures/music from/to laptops and cellphones, but for some reason they changed their minds at the last minute
