There are old CRT tv's that are 1080i that doesn't support 720p, but they are VERY few - there are however lots of people with a 1080i tv / 720p tv that only set the ps3 to output that and then wonder why they are not getting a HD picture (when the game is in a different format)

you definitely can see blu ray in 720p and it looks fine.  720p is a very nice resolution.

Yes, you can play Blu-Ray Movies on 720p TVs. Check my screenshots below:

Everyone keep in mind photos don't do the real thing justice, especially since most photos that are posted are smaller than 720p, so you really are not seeing HD, but just a screenshot of a tv that was playing HD.

Tim, You should put those 1080p example images you have in your signature. You posted them before. But I keep forgetting to bookmark them.

I just find it funny when people look at an image that is DVD size and say that looks good in the context of HD. Be it sometimes it can show improvement, and I bet the over done sharpness and contrast makes it look more impressive, it still isn't HD. A good calibrated display would be nothing like. But that's the a reason why most HD TVs are defaulted to a VIVID setting, that over saturates, high contrast, extra sharp to wow customers walking around stores.

You mean the Pixar Cars 1080p images?

I should do more form quicktime trailers. But anyone that asks for what 720-1080p looks like can just go to quicktime.com and see every new trailer at those.

Why are you showing a HD-DVD product played through your xBox 360 on the PS3 board. :| Do notice that I didn't include a' ?' and that your signature says god hates m3Boarder32.

Cry me a river dude!  Are you saying HD-DVD looks fine in 720p and Bluray does not?  The point is 1080p HD Movies look fine on a 720p HDTV.
