I remember all sorts of issues with having the PS2 in the vertical position. Same story this time, too? Will discs get scratched, etc? Or is it supposedly safer than the PS2?

I have mine stood vertically and I've had no problems at all. Haven't heard of anyone else having problems either so it seems fine.

Perfectly safe since the PS3 uses a slot loader and not a disc tray.

its completely safe, i had my ps3 like that for a month and played it regularly and it ran fine, the ps3 is designed that no matter how you set it it the vents wont be cover(unless your putting it with the glossy side down which is not advised)

Whoever thinks it is not safe for the ps3 to be standing in the vertical position is a person who doesn't know much. If the ps3 in vertical position was somehow a dangerous thing to do then they wouldn't tell you that it is okay to have it like that. In the official ps3 manual it says you are able to put it in the vertical position and there is a ps3 stand for sale so why wouldn't it be safe? And the ps3 doesn't get HOT, it just gets really warm like any other electronic when used for a while. When i first bought my ps3 a little over a year ago, i used it like hell and i kept it on the vertical position without the stand on the carpet and it was fine. I learned it's really not safe to keep it on carpet just like that and whatever but it doesn't make a difference if you know how to be careful. While it was standing like that onthe carpet it never fell over on its own and it only fell over ONCE because i was stoned and i was walking and my foot accidentally hit it and i put it back up to how it was and it had no problems so with a stand on a ledge or whatever why would it not be safe? And i never cleaned the ps3 even once on the inside with a vacuum yet and it runs totally fine, no freezing except sometimes if i decide to send a message to a friend during the game while its loading i noticed (but not alot, not aymore i could care less about a stupid friends list full of kids who play games only so i deleted them, makes no difference to me cuz i never knew them) i cleaned my ps3 on the outside only once after a year and it looks brand new. and if anyone out there is wondering how to clean the outside of the ps3 to make it look totally brand new like no fingerprints, smudges, sratches etc. go to a store like canadian tire or walmart and look for CAR WAX GEL, just the gel and no polish cuz it will be used for a ps3 which is not a car so car polish gel is not needed. When you find the bottles of them in the store just pick it up and read the front and back carefully and see if it says, "safe for clearcoats" and if it says that it is safe for clearcoat then that means it will clean your ps3 and any other things that are also made of the same material. once you have bought it and ur ready to clean, just turn ur ps3 off from the back switch so the red light on the front goes off and then unplug all wires and take the console and put it in a desk or whatever you want. get a few tissues and fold them to make it thick and then spray water onto it and then gently rub the exterior faceplate of the ps3 with it (the top where it says PLAYSTATION 3 in silver letters). that will get rid of the dust and get it ready to be waxed with car gel. next, get a microfiber cloth (it's a very soft cloth like the ones you use to clean a pair of glasses with) and take the cloth and putonly a few small drops of the wax onto the cloth and gently rub your ps3 with it all over the place, one side at a time andit will leave streaks but keep wiping till its shiny and brand new looking, and when you use it to clean the parts where there are vents dont use too much you probably wont even need to any mroe wax onto the cloth cuz it gets absorbed into it so u could just wipe). when cleaning these areas, if you notice a tiny tiny amount of wax is in the vents on the tiny squares like close to the inside but not totally inside just get something like a Q-tip and use that to easily wipe it. you can also clean the shiny silver outline of the ps3 with this to but you wont need a drop. when i clenaed my ps3 like this it took about 45 minutes cuz i took my time and i wont have to clean it or like a nother year i bet cuz i try my best not to touch it with my fingers. try it, you will see the difference it will make the ps3 look like how it did when u first took it out from the box!

I read the first couple of sentences, then my eyes started to burn and slightly getting blinded, so I stopped, you should really edit it to different paragraphs so that it can be read, or reduce unnecessary information not proclaiming to this topic, is ok to get off topic but not when you write that much and then not separate it...

I had mine originally horizontal and it seemed to really heat up. It seems to do this less when I have it vertical. So far I have no problems.

Mines horizontal, some of my friends hav it vertical and it works fine. Just make sure when u put it on vertical tht the base is not the fan vent side (i dunno if it even can stand on tht side but anyways)
