Is anyone else sick of multiplayer only focused ratings by users?

Increasingly all i ever read about game experience by users on this forum is just whether the multiplayer part of a game is fun or not. Do you actually want a plot in your games? Something like a narrative, that's going to make you remember it? I am not referring to racing or fighting games, ok those never had any, but all other , FPS or not, action/shooter adventures. Maybe it's just really young people who post on these forums and just want to get to the "big weapons" as soon as possible or something. In ten years time when a game like Heavy Rain comes along people will droop their heads on the side and stare at it. Yes i am bitter!

I never play online multiplayer, I just enjoy the single player campaign. The muliplayer A) doesn't interest me at all and B) I've got quite a backlog of games I haven't started on, and if I spent time online I'd never get through what I've already got, much less find time to play any of the great new stuff coming out.

So yeah, multiplayer is of absolutely no interest to me, and neither are games that focus almost entirely on multiplayer and give you some stinky little 5 hour excuse for a single player campaign that only serves as a primer for the multiplayer.

I always wonder what people will think 5 years from now, when they read these fabulous game reviews on Gamespot, run out all excited and buy the game, only to find out the multiplayer servers were shut down years ago and the single player campaign is crap.

I play most games for the single player experience. I really enjoy a game where the story pulls you in and makes you care about the characters and where the plot is leading. I really enjoyed Uncharted 1 and 2 and Bioshock. I have purchased Heavy Rain but have not played it yet. Looking forward to it though.

I find this extremely annoying. I do not think a game without a good single player and ok multiplayer is worth 60 bucks. This is why I was extremely upset with MW2. I'm sorry but a 4 hour compaign is bull**** and the online was stupid with the killstreaks. I want character development people!!!!!!! Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles, inFAMOUS, AC2....these are great games. I want my single player experience.

Multiplayer can go shoot itself for the most part. Seriously, it nerfs my single-player experience, which is why I started gaming to begin with. Although, I don't care about ratings, since generic shooters are the ones affected by the scores the most.

I think right around Halo came around the gaming community experienced a horrible increase in FPS games, and shooters in general. So much that our games are now inflated with FPS games. And most of those games are focused around a heavy multiplayer mode. Now we got games with terrible campaign modes and good multiplayer. I think the best example I can give is Resistance 2. The original had a decent campaign, but the second one, not so much. The online mode was better sure. But the growing trend is, all shooters need to have a good online mode. So I don't think it's that people are more focused on multiplayer in video games, I think that's only the case with a few 3rd persons and FPS games.

Absolutely agree, I almost always play games for their single-player campaign, so I'm very disappointed when games are reviewed primarily as multiplayer affairs. I think BF: BC 2 is a recent example...the campaign sounds like a 7.5 or 8 at best, but is treated as a tacked-on addition to a great multiplayer experience. I don't really like MP, so I chose not to get the game as a result.
