I own a 360. Last gen all I played was Socom and loved it so much. I miss those days. Anywho I was considering purchasing a PS3 to play Socom again. But stumbled across this man, http://www.youtube.com/user/blackwido88?blend=1&ob=4. Has my beloved franchise gone down the pipe this bad?

Man thats such a shame. I remember staying up all night playing the second and boosting when I was in school. I heard they're making a remake of Socom 2 for PS3, do you know if there is any truth behind it?

Socom Confrontation is nothing like the good ole Socom games from the past. Socom 4 is in the works from the same developer that made Socom a very good game on the PS2 system back in the days of a real Socom game. I just hope they return the game back to what made it popular.

Why is that? I'm guessing terrible community support?

I don't know about that. From what I read the game was virtually unplayable when it launched. Supposedly they supported the game really well though, and from what I've read it has/had a strong community. Unfortunately that "support" means the game has a bunch of really HUGE patches.

I was thinking about getting this at one point. But I was so late to the game, read about the HUGE patches to download, and with SOCOM4 coming out from the *REAL* Socom developers, I just decided there was no point. Especially since this game has no single player campaign whatsoever.

I am a huge SOCOM FAN and confrontation is not that bad of a game. It does bring back some of the old great levels from socom 2 like vigilance and and others but in a snow setting and at night. It does have its issues when it first came out like not having everything it was suppose to as far as clan support and tournaments etc. Alot has been fixed now but so many felt betrayed in the beginning that a lot of people walked away, not to mention they really dropped the ball on the DLC offering only one pack when it was suppose to be many. You can get if for 9$ or less easy on ebay and for that its not a bad game if you want to give it a go until 4, it still has people playing just not like the good old days of S2.

Confrontation is horrible. I was super excited for it as well, but it was one of the biggest letdowns I've experienced this generation. It's not even worth the purchase price, much less the purchase of an expensive system (although there are enough great games on PS3 that you probably won't be disappointed with the system itself). Stay away from Confrontation, you have been warned.

Well since your vid kept buffering I gave up on that vid so don't know what he was saying that is so bad about Socom. But its a game I've played since release. The only thing that was bad about the game was long loading times at release and not all of the features it was suppose to have at release. But the features have been fixed. And the community is still going.

Confrontation is just more brutal to new comers. While the older Socom's was a little more run and gun, Confrontation is a little less forgiving with the running and gunning, so if you do this you'll just spend alot of time watching everyone else play. But inturn it just made the game more tactical and alot more communication needed for a team to dominate, which is good from my stand point.

I can tell you this, at this point there isn't a game on the market that I can hop in and play the entire day without having alot of issues except for Socom. Me and my friends have definitly played this game for the past 2 year or however long since release. We take breaks from it to play other games, but slowly but surely we migrate back to Socom. There just isn't a better game out there that is just so community based. I literally can add friends constantly if I wanted to during a gameing session with Socom. For the most part out of 60 friends on my list I can prolly say, atleast 40 of them came from playing Socom, prolly 18 from KZ2 and 2 from playing the entire cod series lol.

I enjoyed Socom. It was a great change of pace making you rethink every step and when you get a team that's actually working together its magical.

Well, first and foremost, it was completely unplayable for about 6 weeks after release. I understand they have fixed it now, but that was a major turn off for me. Beyond that, the graphics were extremely dated and the controls felt very, very floaty to me. The maps were, for the most part, small and tactically limited, and most of them were very uninspired with the exception of the old SOCOM maps. By that I mean that the color palette was bland and dry, the backdrops were unintersting, and none of the maps really stood out as being "good." Many of the maps (I am struggling to remember their names two or three years later) had areas that seemed specifically designed to promote irritating camping that messed up the flow of the game, i.e. windows and rooms with only one way in or out, buildings with a glaring lack of flanking issues, things like that. There were also multiple glitches both graphically (clipping, texture tearing, etc.) and in terms of gameplay (I frequently spawned with no gun in my hands, a real immersion killer in a TPS) even after the first patch. Now, I will admit that I am not sure what the state of the game is at this point since I got rid of my copy after trying deperately to like it for a couple of months. The problem is, it was never anything better than a run-of-the-mill average shooter even without the problems. Hell, I think GRAW 2 did a much better job of presenting a great TPS tactical MP, and that series is practically brand new compared to SOCOM. I think you are better off looking elsewhere for your shooter of choice if you do decide to get a PS3.

It was just released before it was ever finished...After Socom 3,,,the Socom series wewnt downhill...it is not only an uncomplete game, but it took months and months of patches just to make it playable.....In this day and age its a big fail.....People still believe in Socom just from the fun we all had with it from the first three,,,,,,if people really think its going to get any better they are still just using hopefull wishes......

People will buy the game just for the name and not quality....Just like the COD series,,,just becasue it sells millions does not make them quality games....

is it really that hard to just HD the first three Socoms and put them up on the ps store.....?

Unplayable for the first 6 weeks? I played through the beta until today, so it was definitly playable. Was there some freezing issues yes, on the scale of the freezing issues of black ops, not even in the same ball park. Black ops freezes on me 2-3 times a gaming session. Controls felt floaty to you? Sorry but I'm wondering if you played the same game as me. Small maps? Once again are you even playing Socom confrontation? You do know that they had large maps of all of the maps right? Cause the maps in confrontation really are some of the largest maps of any game out minus the bad company games or mag, if your playing the large maps. Color pallete? Are you serious? All of the maps depending on location look different. I think a desert town prolly will look sorta brown and sandy don't ya think? A urband area of town may possibly look sorta grey don't ya think? Buildings with flanking issues? Even the old socom games had buildings or rooms with only 1 entrance. Most of the time they were the best extraction maps. Graphics, yes they aren't the best by no means but the game was intended to be a downloadable game. Heck even the retail copy downloads from the psn. But to this day the enviroments looks better than most cod games on the market. But most of the graphics glitches have been fixed, minus some of the pop in when first watching someone else finish the round. Confrontation a run of the mill shooter? Dude there isn't NOTHING like it out there that gives the same type of feel and gameplay. Sorry but I really question if you played the game or just read some reviews. Also the things you mentioned here don't make a game unplayable. The things that all of the cod games have had makes games unplayable. Throwing in cod cause I'm pretty mad right now about that sad excuse for a game, that I've been trying to play lol.

Or maybe I happened to notice the same issues all of the reviewers did while you chose to ignore them? I can tell you like the game, but it really isn't very good. I'm sorry but "they did it in the old games" is not an excuse for bland or unbalanced map design, limiting tactical options in a tactical shooter is unforgivable, and no game should be completely broken to the point of unplayability after release like Confrontation. As I said in my post (which I'm not sure you really read that carefully), I know the issues may have been fixed by now, but I got tired of waiting to play the game I paid for and sold it. By all means, play and enjoy the game, but please don't come on here acting like it's the second coming when it is really just mediocre to plain bad (63 on Metacritic based on 64 reviews and a 7.0 user rating from 200+ users). Seems like anyone who knows anything about games disliked it for many of the same reasons I did, you are just a more patient gamers I guess.

Wait for Socom 4, because Confrontation is online only and it wasn't created with a lot of good imagination.

7.6 user score from 1,993 users here on GS.

Anyone and there brother knows many haters go on metacritic and give 360 and ps3 titles 0's for the giggles of it. Also when the game released, most reviews hit it hard for online issues. Which those online issues haven't been nearly as bad as some of the highest rated games this gen.

I never said the game was god or it was the 2nd coming, I just think for the most part people and reviewers were judging it like it should have been another cod game. Heck the first 6 months the game was out thats all we heard from gamers in Socom was cod this and cod that, and well we just told them go play cod. Socom has NO aim assist at all, so gamers these days hate it, cause guess what, they can't hit the side of a barn with no aim assist. Its actually pretty laughable when guys I know finally come in and try it after playing cod games for the past 3 years and they get owned and get mad and leave lol.

Unbalanced maps? Geez man. Only maps that are unbalanced are meant to be unbalanced since its a round based game that teams switch sides at the half way point. Maybe a issue if you just tried to play team death matches, but if running medleys you definitly see the logic behind most of the maps, cause not all maps are meant to be played with other game types but to keep things available they kept maps like desert glory open to be played as a elmination map.

Socom has and always will be a game that isn't for everyone. Once it is for everyone, then that is the day it has truly been ruined. Oh yea, a single entrance can be over come quite easily tactically with a ranger bud or even solo, if carrying the right equipment.

And also camping has always been apart of Socom or any tactical shooter. Whats so bad is camping in a run and gun game just to get a kill streak going.
