Is dark souls that much more difficult than demon souls?

Its alot easier imo.. I had a hell of a time with Demon's Souls, so much so that i just kinda quit.. so far Dark Souls seems to be alot easier in the sense that its never really a cheap death. its always somethign that can be avoided if you're thinking straight.. Just buy it, struggle through the first 3 or 4 hours and then you'll be loving it in no time..

I'll put it this way.... There is this part of the game where there are ghost. You cannot kill them, they can kill you. They go through walls... and floors. Their attacks extend meaning they can reach you first. They bypass your shield. You again, cannot attack them, unless..... if you're cursed. Which in fact, lowers your hp as if it was poison. Now imagine a stage like that? There is also lack of space in dark souls for you to maneuver in while you fight. Now one last thing, This game is freaking awesome and lovable because of that difficulty, you feel you're accomplishing something as you progress through your journey. So yes it is harder than demon souls, so playing demon souls would be a good warm up.

I'd have to disagree... I thought Demon's Souls was much easier starting out than this game. I've currently beaten 2 bosses and am now stuck as every direction I try to go in I end up getting my butt kicked, hard.

Hmm,, i don't know, i found Demon Souls almost unplayable for me, a large part of it was that it was kind of glitchy, so far Dark Souls just feels like you don't have as bad a punishment for death... maybe try grinding for a bit, level up, buy some more powerful spells.. level up your endurance so you can dodge more effectively, and most importantly, memorize enemy patterns.

I just beat the first boss literally two minutes ago. I wasn't sure where to go so I tried crossing the next bridge I came to, well.....big mistake. Then I decided to go down the tower stairs before you fight the first boss. Even bigger mistake. I had a much easier time with Demon's Souls TBH. It doesn't seem like there is any type of safe haven. No Nexus to recoup and relax, it's just one place leading to another with little direction as to where to go next. The only option is to explore everywhere. The enemy's attacks are much much more random and they attack in larger mobs making singling them out more difficult. With all that said, it's bigger, better, and more exciting than Demon's Souls. I love it.

I dunno, I thought Demon Souls was much easier than Dark Souls so far. Maybe it's because I had the handy guide for Demons Souls?

I think Dark Souls is harder, at least so far, for a few reasons:

~Estus flasks vs grass: Healing grass was prevalent in Demons Souls, so I always had enough of it. I'm frequently low on estus.

~Enemy swarms: Enemies swarm you more agressively and frequently in Dark Souls, and in larger numbers.

~Enemy behavior: Enemies rush at you faster in Dark Souls than in Demons Souls, making it more difficult to attack from range. In Dark Souls, if two enemies are close together and you hit one from distance, both will come to attack you; I don't remember this being the case in Demons Souls. Additionally, enemies see you from further away than in Demons Souls and will chase you much further - for instance the red-eyed knight in Boletaria 1-1 would retreat if you got far enough away; in Dark Souls he would probably chase you through the whole level. This makes it much harder to just run past enemies. In Dark Souls, enemies exhibit more intelligent behavior - using their shield effectively, will parry and riposte you, and will flank you. I even had once case where I opened a shortcut via gate and the next time I tried to go through it an undead soldier ran and shut the gate before I could make it through.

~Backstabbing: It seemed easier to pull off a backstab in Demons Souls. Maybe it's just me.

That's where I'm at. I baited the black knight and got him to chase me all the way past where the merchant is and back to the spot with the tall ladder and climbed up, leaving him there with no place to go. Unfortunately, I ran back to the bonfire like an idiot. Now I have to clear out the entire area again. I was so pissed at myself I just decided to take a break. :P

Have you tried grinding a little? The bonfire system makes it incredibly easy to grind and level up, which is a part of why I think this game is a good bit easier. And Demon's Souls was a real pain until you killed the Phalanx in 1-1. I think that first section actually killed the entire game for a lot of people. I ran through the beginning of Dark Souls like it was nothing. Of course, I platinum'd Demon's Souls and played through it three and a half times, so I'm probably just really used to how the game plays.

Dark Souls is a %^$@# labyrinth (in a good way), but the gameplay is pretty much like Demon's Souls.

While Demon's Souls was challenging, I found it much easier to master and progress through. Dark Souls is so hard that I've already posted my copy for sale on ebay.

Yeah I'm working on grinding. I know what I'm doing (I did platinum Demon's Souls as well), it's just I feel like the difficulty is much steeper in some cases.

At first I thought this game wasn't that bad, beat the 1st real boss no problem, then it just got hard. After 6 hours and 45 minutes of gameplay logged I finally beat the 2nd boss (after about 30-35 tries). The game is pretty intense, but it's interesting to see how each death allows you to think of a new, better way to face a situation. Just have a lot of patience and you'll be fine. The same goes with Demon's Souls, though I think this is a lot harder. Partly due to the more open structure of the game that can sometimes lead you along a path you're not leveled up enough to handle.

Starting with Demon's Souls wouldn't be a bad idea, especially since it's rather cheap now. Though, you'd probably have no problem going into Dark Souls, just have a lot of patience and it'll grow on you. I find the difficulty to add to the game and it makes it more addictive since you constantly want to figure out the right way to go about each section.

Demons Soul I found to be harder. The boss actually seemed like they wanted to kill you and because there were no check points, you always had to go really far back. Now in Dark Souls youre just around the corner. Both Awesome games. Play both.
