I want to play this as I really enjoyed Fallout 3 but don't want to pay them any money until it is more stable than it was when it was released. Thanks for any responses.

I don't think New Vegas has changed much.

Vegas....
Vegas never changes.
I liked Fallout 3 so much that I actually pre-ordered this piece of crap. It started out okay but about a third into the playthrough it started freezing up, locking quests, making characters/companons disapper/run off/become unresponsive, and the list goes on and on. Really I felt like I should've been paid as a beta tester.
It's too bad it would've been a good game (not amazing like Fallout 3 but still very good) if it worked but it doesn't so it's not.
If you really need to get it (and as a fan of Fallout 3 I can understand that) get the pc version as the modder patches are much better than any of the "official" ones. The patches on the ps3 really don't seem to have done much at all. This game is floating around amongst my friends right now and they aren't having any better luck with it either.
I had problems with fallout new vegas but then i realized if you completely powered down your system and reloaded the game every 2 hours you would experience no freezing. So don't play super long and if you do turn your system off a couple of times. The game is amazing and i prefer it over fallout 3. people make it out to be worse then it is ust save frequently!

I had heard that (the 2 hr rule) but in all honesty once it started bugging up/bugging out, I was amazed in the one evening that I was able to play for two hours without it freezing. Unfortunately I was never that lucky again. It usually froze up on me within one hour. One time it never even loaded up: froze up on the load screen after popping it in.
Even if that did really work for everyone, it shouldn't be necissary.
And while autosave is a helpful function you have to keep making manual saves. Not just for locked quests but if the game freezes while autosaving (which also happened to me) it's rendered useless.
yes, it is still very buggy even after the massive 1.02 patch, which is widely believed to be the last patch. avoid this game at all cost unless you enjoy being ripped off and having to find sorry excuses to justify the purchase afterwards.
meh its a bethesda game they never seen to care about fixing any glitches in their games jsut making dlc that has more glitcheselbert_b_23
wow... it never ceased to amaze me how Obsidian has always been able to squeeze its way outta the s*** storm it created and dump all the blame on its publishers - Lucas Arts, Atari, Sega and now Bethesda.
Speak with your dollars and not your mouth. Don't buy the next game. Also, to whoever claimed that the developers tend to push all the problems on the publishers, both parties are to blame. Yes more blame should go to the developers, but Bathesda should not have released the game in the condition that it is in. Bathesda should have made the developers go back and fix the issues, or cancel the game. From what I have heard, it doesn't seem like the game is playable. I shouldn't have to power down my system just to play for 2 hours straight without the game freezing.
Unfortunately it still has problems. It's a great game with tons of choices, but if glitches annoy you a lot then you should avoid it.
Exactly. I for one will never touch anything by Obsidian or Bethesda again. Going all the way back to the Sega Master System and the original NES, I can honestly say that New Vegas was the buggiest console game I've ever played. I've had just about every glitch one could possibly imagine: getting stuck in rocks and other terrain features, having companions sucked into the ground for no apparent reason, horrible stutter and frame rate issues, and of course at least one crash every hour or so. Bethesda should be ashamed for releasing NV in its present state. However, instead of working on a patch to fix this jumbled mess, they release DLC -- absolutely outrageous. If you must play the game, get the PC version. At least that way you can get unofficial patches from modders who, unlike Bethesda, have taken an interest in trying to repair this polished turd of a game.Speak with your dollars and not your mouth. Don't buy the next game.

I am in the process of selling my copy really only because i pretty much played the whole game only to have my PS3 brick and lose all my data so not really motivated to start over. Patches hardly ever fix all the problems, i just find it interesting how things vary between people. Its the same game that everyone gets so how can you not all have the same problems? Does not make sense

your kidding yourself if you didn't have any problems with fallout3 or oblivion even to this day some fallout 3 dlc has issues and the game even has slow down and freeze issues really new vegas has improved on every aspect of 3 so of coarse it will have problemsi don't mean to piss anyone off, it seems to me that everyone enjoys fo3 and nv, but for the life of me can someone explain to me why someone would buy something knowing the company doesn't care about fixing some problems, it's like going to a dealership and buying a car when they know full well there's something wrong with it

F3 wasn't nearly as problematic as NV is - you know it, i know it; hell, in fact very few games are nearly as problematic as NV isso stop disrespecting yourself with excuses and lies. and i don't really give a flying f about how it has improved hence "of course" (omfg, this bs here tops them all) it should have problems. it's an incomplete product coming from a studio best known for making incomplete products, FACT, and anyone even trying to justify their incompetence need to seriously reassess his quality standard.
also, to the poster above. good question. i absolutely knew Obsidian was gonna F-up, but i also knew there are tons of delusional fans waiting to throw away money for their trash. that's why when i spotted a cheap used copy online i grabbed it, knowing i'll be able to turn around and rip off some fool. sure enough, that's what i did and it was one fine day. ;)
i havent experienced that many problems with the game besides it randomly locking up on me at loading screens and random slow down in the gameplay. Also the objectives are pretty buggy too, sometimes it doesnt even register that you completed something on the mission when you really did but i just had to load the game again and it was fine. How i see it, is that they should of had a different graphics engine for new vegas but i see they went the cheap way out and just used the same engine from fallout 3. I mean the graphics werent great for fallout 3 and now years later they look even worse.

just yesterday with fallout 3 ended up freezing 3 times that day and had insane framerate slow down i experienced more problems in 3 then in NV you may say that i am disrespecting yourself with excuses and lies but i say you are being bias with your dislike with Obsidian but in all truth i doubt that they did anything without Bethesda looking over them its not Obsidian's fault they have bad game model to work with and they had no company would let another company ruin one of there biggest ipi've said quite enough on this topic and it's about time for me to stop before i become really insulting - not that an impotent studio such as Obsidian and its diehard apologists don't deserve it, of course. 4 crappy products out of 4 releases. nuff said. if you think there's even a need to debate then i rest my case.
I got it when it first came out i played it for a month or two and i havent picked it up again it just crashes all the time. The only thing that seems to work for me was to play it for only an hour or less at a time then taking a long break. The only thing the patch did was to get rid of some exploits and glithchs that let u get infinite exp as far as i can tell.
