Yes it's worth it. Some people dismiss it right away because you start with a crappy car (and probably not even a premium car, just a "standard" car with not even an interior view). It is litlte slow at first. But once you get into it, it starts becoming incredibly fun and addicting IMO However for me at least, it started to become a grind again after I started getting to higher levels. It definitely feels like a grind to level up to 40, to complete b-spec, etc. I mean hell I'm pretty sure it takes 1000+ hours to platinum, which is probably one of the biggest "grindfest" PS3 games. Plus sometimes you win some pain in the ass race, and they still give you some lame standard car as your prize which seems hardly worth it. There's definitely some WTF stuff that is annoying, but overall it's definitely worth it. Clearly the game is a step up from the likes of Shift 2 on the PS3 (at least in terms of graphics, car models, handling, etc). Basically the important stuff of driving is where it shines. But some of the "game design" areas is where it's a litlte questionable.
Yeah its worth it. With over 1000 cars in the game, it will take a long time before you get bored. A-spec is fun, I havent raced B spec though. SOme of the special events are cool. The most fun is the constant updates. The Seasonal races get updated every week and are far better than most of the A-spec races. Racing online is fun too which is a first for the series. The have made a lot of improvements to the interface as well. Overall, its an awesome game.
It's the only racing worth it's $60 price tag. Online, NASCAR, hell even the Kart racing is fun and have never been in the series before. I could literally do 16 man online NASCAR races all day if you let me.
