Bushido Blade was the only game to ever capture true Chambara spirit in gaming, one slash kills rules. The best system to do a next gen version on is Wii, the Wii controls are made for Bushido Blade.
topic. I loved that game with the one hit kills and cutting somebody at the knees, good times.Phill119
Bushido Blade 1 ROCKED! Bushido Blade 2 made no sense at all and the gameplay was okay at best. I would love a Bushido Blade 3 though. I think I recall a Samurai game that's in the works (or out already by now) that was like Bushido Blade on steroids. I think it was called Way of the Samurai or something. Hmm...There was another game about samurai that was pretty sweet too...I think it was on the PS2 though I can't recall what its name was either. Crap memory.Teyon
There is a Way of the Samurai 3 in development. The first 2 were PS2 games. They weren't terrible, well the second wasn't anyway as far as samurai games go, but they weren't vs. fighting games with one-hit kills, or disabling arms and legs like the Bushido Blades.
Bushido Blade developers went on to work on the Kengo series, which at the time, seemed a step towards a more arcade gameplay and i didn't like the approach so i didn't try them out. Square broke their relationship with the developers, so they worked for a smaller publisher and probably that's why Kengo games didn't get as noticed.
About Bushido Blade making a comeback, i'd be a very very happy person if that happened but it had to maintain the original's system. Hell, back in PS1 days, i understand they had a hard time making a huge free-roaming village like they intended (it was broken into parts, it had to load each one) but nowadays it should be easier. Yeah, Way of the Samurai is an alternative but i didn't get around to try it either, what a shame.
I don't know why Square didn't invest more not only in this series but also in the Tobal series. Unlike the second Bushido Blade, which probably had the finger of Square trying to make it more accessible to gamers who still didn't understand it was more of a sword fighting simulator instead of your usual beat'em up with power bars and all, they changed the sword control scheme from the low-medium-high blows into horizontal-vertical, a bit like Soul Blade, but without the kick button. And that parry button was a strange addition. The fact that your character wouldn't get his knees busted was strange too.
As for Tobal, which i am taking the chance to introduce in this thread, the second was a masterpiece and it's one of the best beat'em ups ever. The Quest Mode alone is a true argument for it being considered by me as a top 5 contender for best beat'em up. Bushido Blade 2 managed to get its way to US and even with a translataion already made they didn't bother to take it over to EU. Tobal 2 never got an official translation and years after, when confronted with the outrageous decision not to bring this game out of Japan, Square responded that the translation costs were too high. Strangely enough, the game warranted so much attention from fans that it made its way onto emulators and amazingly enough, a fan-made translated copy of the game is available for thos who wished for their lives to try this game without going through 5 to 10 years of japanese learning.
Strange times indeed for Square, who didn't publish the highly anticipated Final Fantasy Tactics in EU or even Valkyrie Profile. Americans may not have noticed too much (only Tobal 2) but Square has always taken in very poor consideration its european fans. Getting back on topic, i dont' see any other explanation for the Bushido Blade guys not to continue with that series under a new developer either than the fact that it's a brand copyrighted by Square and only under their belt could they continue making it. And with the indifference demonstranted by Square (and not only with that series, as you can see), i wouldn't hold my breath and i'd be very wary if it was ever announced a new one because it would most certainly be made by total strangers to the series.
Oh well, Square fans might as well help them milk those juicy Final Fantasy cows!!!!!!
I've been hoping for a Bushido Blade 3 for a long time now. Kengo: Master of the Bushido is not on par with the original Bushido Blades. I never cared much for life bars and I miss playing with one hit kills.
PS3 has the power to make Bushido Blade 3 an amazing Samurai/Ninja fighting game. They did have guns in the original 2, mainly do to the time period they were in but they hardly disrupted the flow of the game. I would prefer a realistic one hit kill/limb flying game...Where you can get pwned and be on your back with a severed arm and broken leg, but still manage to make an amazing comeback by makinga saving dodge and swipe, bringing your opponent down to your level. Just like we've watched in so many movies.
Oh yeah, I really enjoyed Way of the Samurai 1...I never had the chance of playing Way of the Samurai 2, but the first one was fun and cheap when I bought it. Like 20 bucks brand new. I am looking forward to the 3 game and maybe playing the second game sometime as well.
Added: They will also have a Way of the Samurai Online-game. Which is seperate from WOS3...:D I am excited.
i LOVEDDDDD part one. wasn't part two not in teh states on the account of being to violent? lol. id love part three though.SikKwuN

Oh hell freaking yea.
Bushido Blade is my favorite fighting game in PS1.
I do hope Bushido Blade gets a sequel but instead of fighting game, I want it more of free roam sandbox type of game like Way of Samurai, but with Bushido blade combat style.
I still have the original. Good game, had a sweet peaceful zenlike feel to it- with the exception of all the violence.
I would love a new one---we need a good game like this.
They should remake Bushido Blade, or make a sequel, multi-platform. There were only a few things I would've wanted for BB, like character customization, more characters and more weapons.
Think about it, Bushido Blade with better graphics and more fluid controls, that would be the best thing to happen to gaming since, well.... Bushido Blade. :P
