well... this is something ive just thought about, but HOME seems like kind of a random thing to totally announce at a DEVELOPERS conference...

it may ensure developers that sony is concerned and focused on online capabilities...

but seeing as its a DEVELOPERS conference... it seems they should be relying more on the PSEDGE for their keynote. ... but maybe im loony.

That and I've seen a dozen topics in other forums of lemmings scared cuz of home  Honestly, Sony didn't do anything special..they just did what we have known they were gonna do all along...play the game like champs. I'm really impressed by reverse hyping though. First they over hype Killzone 2...knowing it would be dificult to achieve that level of realism so soon they underhype it...making people go boooh..then when it comes out and blows us away people will say YAYAYAYA! lol fricken geniusNextGenNow

the great thing is... they stayed silent about KZ for two whole years or so..so you cant accuse them of overhyping it. they stayed silent! its brilliant! the CG was just a preview, its not like they elaborated on it...they cant be blamed.

but in all honesty, i think KZ will look great.

Well they stayed silent but by saying that which we saw was playable they overhyped now their underhype tactics will give them HUGE amounts of positive feedback. Sony really are the masters of spin I tell ya what. In one day they seemed to have changed public perception of themselves lol!!

Home is drawing more people to the PS3 (mainly casual gamers) and is somewhat unexpected. i've read various non-gaming related (well, not completely unrelated) messageboards that have people interested in getting a ps3 now. not only Home, but Little Big Planet as well. Sony really did dominate GDC, even if a lot of the rumors were not true. i originally thought that their big name exclusives like MGS, DMC, GT, FF etc would be critical in the PS3's success. but with Home and Little Big Planet, i'm sure a lot more casual gamers will be interested in the PS3 now as well. things are really looking good for the PS3.

Actually I disagree. Home, SingStar, and LittleBigPlanet fit quite well with the conference. Notice he didn't mention or try to advertise other PS3 games.

Home is actually a feature developer very interested in. They need to know it to interact with gamers, or to designs their games around it, take advantage of what it have to offer (ads, trailers, ...)

SingStar seem the most irrelevant and I think no one really interested in talking hearing about it. We all know the ideas, this kind of thing it's more fun to actually play it instead of talking about how it sound. Boring, moving on....

LittleBigPlanet is the star of the show, it's a new game, totally promotion but it fit with the topic Game 3.0. Talking about user developed content in a developers conference, well fit.

I think it's quite nice that Phil doesn't really talk about things that's out of topic.

The Sony keynote is amazing, I am just completly amazed at Home. And i am definatly buying LittleBigPlanet, its so simple but yet so fun. Kinda like Super Mario Bros. But you can make your own lever, and you can smack other players.

It was Sony's finest GDC keynote, K*taku did there best to ruin this year's GDC for Sony but what they didn't realize was that Sony had another gem in there pocket LittleBigPlanet.

I've been waiting on PS3 because of the lack of software, lack of rumble and previous track record of "breaky" launch consoles. But you know what? The PS3 turned out to be  a solid well built non-"breaky" powerhouse with a good blueray drive compared to stand alone units (as oppose to such a crappy DVD player the PS2 is, ask anyone with an HDTV) for what is , regardless of what the lemmings say, a good price and as of recently it appears rumble will come back and now Home which looks cool as hell, I'm pretty sure I'm getting me a 60gig Friday is payday woot! Still a lack of decent software but give me Home and MKII online and who needs games?

Sony had a great GDC, a hell of a lot better than E3 06 TGS 06, more of the Sony that showed the PS3 for the first time back in E3 05 but this time backing up what they claimed with live demos.. Home and Little big planet wow that's what Sony needs to help show what PS3 is about.

It's you. Sony just detonated itself at GDC. Where is the revised (and much needed) user interface for the store and the dashboard. The controller isn't a PC mouse, for the love of God, Sony take a cue from Microsoft and let us navigate the dashboard w/ the frickin' D-Pad.

Obviously, alot of you guys have never experienced the 360's USER FRIENDLY interface or Live service because the PS3's interface sucks by comparison. Using a phone keypad, instead of a keyboard interface, to create messages is frustrating and idiotic.

PS Home may go over big in Japan, but they also still love Britney Spears. Of course, if you get off on the Sims series then this is your nirvana.

This update is so amazing that we have to wait until a small number of Euros get their PS3's at launch (March 23rd) before we can download it.

And would Sony please just charge us $40 to $60 a year for their internet service so we can get some results. Sony truly is a hardware company & Microsoft is a software company. If only I couild get Microsoft's software to run on Sony's hardware?

Maybe you guys wuld like to go fishin and relax from the hectic firefights before you jump right back in? Chattin in real time on your headsets the whole time. Ya see, though you laugh now...with a Sony consoles user base normally ending at about 130 million sold...Home could havea nation sized following.

I take that back, this is slightly more sick. I have a better version of the software you are describing. Its called life. This Home thng is a gimmick, and anyone who can't recognize that is fooling themselves. I was waiting for GDC to give me a reason to buy a PS3, and got nothing. I want GAMES!! Crazy next-gen mind-blowing games!! Its a developers conference, where is the talk about the games?

I don't think the version of the software you're talking about is still out yet in your area, if It was out you wouldn't be here spatting nonsense. GDS stands for Game Developers Conference, I don't think developers give a flying feck about next-gen mind-blowing games from their sister or rival company, they attended the conference because they're more interested in learning more about features of the console and how they could implement and take full advantage of those features in their own line of work.

Personally I wish there were more games discussed for PSN, and for the console itself. I'm excited about the achievement aspect of Home, but the fall is very far away.

Yeah, you are right. That's why games like Mass Effect were shown off during the conference, because fellow developers aren't interested in games. And with the extensive media coverage of the conference, no company would actually want to show off their games. I can't really argue on the topic of "Home" without being labeled as a fanboy, so there's not any point to continue. My personal opinion is that its an obvious gimmick. You buy the $600 dollar console for the games, thats all I'm saying.

Just have to laugh at a comment like this, specially the "Sony truly is a hardware company & Microsoft is a software company. If only I couild get Microsoft's software to run on Sony's hardware?" part.

Hey jag off, I own both the 360 & PS3. I'm currently playing just my PS3 (Virtua Fighter 5, Tekken, Ridge Racer, GT HD, several Blu-Rays, etc.). I'm in the bottom half of the top 100 high scores in Q-Bert. You know the game people **** about being so hard. TALISMANJ ranked #87 as of this posting.

Sony's hardware i.e. controllers w/ blue tooth, HDMI output and build quality of console exceed the 360 by leaps and bounds (Hence, Sony is truly a hardware company). Sony's origins are rooted in hardware systems, see televisions.

The 360's interface i.e. Live, friends list, ease of use, etc exceed the PS3 by leaps and bounds (Hence, Microsoft is truly a software company). Microsoft's origins are rooted in software i.e. operating systems, ask IBM. By the way the use of "software" is meant to denote their console's operating system not their games. You know like Windows Vista is software not hardware.

Like I wrote previously, if only I could get Microsoft's software to run on Sony's hardware. PS3 and the 360 have great games in the pipeline. I support both by actually buying their products not by spouting off on game forums.

I agree w/ lockjaw333, where are the games. Microsoft & Nintendo had games to show at the GDC. I want games to play in 1080P and a decent operating system/interface for the PS3 not some place for nerds to gather.

I guess you could say Sony ruled GDC. Then again, Nintendo hasn't had their speech and MS isn't even giving one. I was 1,000 times more interested in Little Big Planet then Home.

The Sony keynote is amazing, I am just completly amazed at Home. And i am definatly buying LittleBigPlanet, its so simple but yet so fun. Kinda like Super Mario Bros. But you can make your own lever, and you can smack other players.MetalHead_PS3

Just one question. How do you know it's so fun?

It was Sony's finest GDC keynote, K*taku did there best to ruin this year's GDC for Sony but what they didn't realize was that Sony had another gem in there pocket LittleBigPlanet.dancinaps
Ugh, you fanboys are unbearable. All kotaku did was release something they thought to be true and would be interesting as news. If every news agency didn't release information based on company's requests we wouldn't actually have news agencies anymore. You all make yourselves out to be some sort of pariah on a holy mission. Not everyone is out to get you and your precious system. Get over it.

GDC is a Game Developers Conference, its a conference designed to showcase the newest aspects of game-creating, not the games themselves. It's not E3.

Since we're talking about consoles, its a great way for the console companies to show off various aspects of their console that is going to be utilized in the near future, like HOME.

Little Big Planet is an example of what Phil said at the last big event--he said that he was very in to myspace and youtube and that the idea of user-generated content intrigued him.

I want games just as much as everyone else, but you need to understand that there will always be games, but what is going to make this generation different from the last? What is going to make the casual gamer want a PS3 instead of a Wii or an Xbox 360?

Let's face it, the more casual gamers that invest in a console the more games are going to be developed for it.

This was a DEVELOPER'S conference.
And you know what?   All those developers were clapping and shouting with glee.

**THEY** were happy about it and thought Sony RULED.

If you wish to go tell the developers they are wrong FINE.
Go do that.  Prove you are a nutcase.

Otherwise Sony ruled GDC.  End of story.

I think because of the demise of E3, GDC will become more of an announcement platform for a  lot of companies.  Used to be just a show for techies and insiders.  I hope the industry continues this trend of more smaller events accross the entire year.   I like getting fun announcements throughout the year, not just in May like at E3.

BTW, Sony totally dominated this GDC.  for once they dont screw up a conference.  NICE.

Now where is the info about that March update???

well... this is something ive just thought about, but HOME seems like kind of a random thing to totally announce at a DEVELOPERS conference...

it may ensure developers that sony is concerned and focused on online capabilities...

but seeing as its a DEVELOPERS conference... it seems they should be relying more on the PSEDGE for their keynote. ... but maybe im loony.

The reson they showed Home is bercause they want to expand it and make it the way they dreamed. So if they don't get developers inot thinking that its essential for gamers and easy to do. Then they won't put anything in and the world wont expand.

Its was actually the best thing they could have announced seeing as home runs because Devs support it. What home will do is unleash a completely new form of advertising for each dev. And it allows them to show off their stuff in their own 3D room. As well as create their own custom tshirts for their games so people in home are walking billboards.

What criticising a website has got to with fanboysem mind me asking? It so interesting that people who just live to bash things come and act all high & mighty and label others for something they're doing in a process of proving their points. It always amuses me when people try to discredit someone by the use of pity name calling technique, some of you should just apply for a job in the white house I bet they would love to have you on board .

StreetShine5
amen! many magazines interviewed phil trying to get phil to crack under the ps3's short comings and some mocked the console. but phil kept his cool didn't get a fake tattoo with home on it, or bash other systems. his confidence is now justifeid. remember all the magazines and other media revealing theyre true colors by declarin e3 wii3? Well gdc belongs to us!!! wii(LoL) took many potshots at us and stood by the ps3, this is our reward. i can't wait for home and little big planet. wii will rock you is dead!!! cuz microsoft and nintendo didn't just get played, they got played beyond!!!
