Is it normal for PS3 to freeze occasionally?

I've had my 80gb BC PS3 for about a year and a half. Until recently I had absolutely no freezes. Then a couple weeks ago, I got my first freeze while playing UC2 online. Then today i got my second freeze while playing MW2 single player. Should i be worried about my PS3 or is this normal?

I used to wonder with my 60GB if it was cos of the B.C. emulation or just cos it used to run a lot hotter than my present 80GB version??

I've had a BC 80GB for about 2 years and it froze for the first time playing U2 online. I'm not concerned.

Mine used to freeze sometimes. I think it depends of the game you are playing. Both games that caused mine to freeze required install data... so it might be that.

My Ps3 freezes everytime i try to do something fast.. like sending or reading messages

I had to send my 40gig back to Sony because it kept freezing up all the time. They ended up sending me a different PS3 and I haven't had near as many issues as my first one. But I have had a few freeze up's but it's rare.

It depends...is it freezing more then your xbox360? If so then youve got a real problem

Not sure why freezing would ever be considered normal for a game console.

Depending on the game, mine has frozen somewhat often. In the last few years it's frozen about 5 times on SCIV (mostly online issues), around twice with Folklore, over 20 times with Unreal Tournament 3 (this cas common before the first patch was released) and about 5 times when the internet browser has crashed. Even trough this I'm not worried about it, and I've had no problems playing games the vast majority of the time, even after long periods of time. I don't know if it's normal, but my freezing occurs mostly when my internet becomes unstable while playing games.

My 20 GB is freezing too much for my liking. At least twice a day, not exagerating. Yesterday when I was playing MW2, it froze 4 times, and they were during both online and single player. I'm seriously considering trading it in for a slim. I'd be happy to get $60 for it.

My 40 GB freezes occasionally when playing Civilization Revolution. Only Civ Rev. It's quite weird...

Well my ps3 has had to be repaired twice and the two times it broke down it froze before. The second time it broke my ps3 had frozen several times in the space of around 4 days. The freezings would become more and more frequent and then finally it would not turn back on again. I will be getting a new ps3 from my warranty and not get the problem again.

Mine freezes while playing Fallout 3 once in a while. I think Call of Duty World at War froze once or twice as well. It happens.

Yeah I think its normal. For the 2 years Ive had mine, it has frozen like 10 times.
