i've noticed hat my ps3's fan spins faster and louder with "heavy" games like uncharted 2 and RDR, and quieter and slower with "lighter" older games... has anybody else had this happen to them? is this normal?
thanks

Mine went Nuts the other night when watching a DVD of 24 I turned the Volume up initially but then had to move the PS3 out of its unit to give it more air. Its never done that before. Time to get some compressed air and a Hoover on it. Clear some dust away from the Fan :)

I guess it depends on how the game "works" the hardware of the console. What's weird is how even emulation can then create the same issue. For example, I know Batman: AA is a pretty intense game, so it's not unsurprising to hear the ps3 spin up quite audibly when I'm playing that for a while. But the other one that is rather interesting is when I run Twisted Metal 2 (installed), it will spin up and remain there until I quit the game. I just recently changed the thermal compound in my ps3, and have noticed a fair improvement there. Once I can afford it, I also intend on replacing the power supply, and getting a new 19-fin fan to put in it, which should both help in making it run cooler still, and also make it greener.

Mine would get louder when playing multiplayer MW2 but then i got ylod (60 gig launch) so be a lil cautious. It started running loud about 6 months ago and then died last week. Just a heads up. I would take it to a pc shop and have them clean it out and re-apply a thermal paste, if you dont want to do it yourself that is...
