Is it okay to skip the first Assasins Creed and play the second one?

I think Assasins Creed 2 is an excellent game and to many I heard the first one was a dissapointment. The question is I am asking is would it be okay to skip the first game and play the second or should I play the first one first before playing the second one.

Thats what i did, i personally hated the first one and there was no way i want to play it anymore. AC2 was much better

the games take place in 2 diffrent ages - the first one is from the midages anf the second one is about therenaissance, but it talks about the memory of the same man except for that that thare aren't really common things in the storylines, but you should play in the first one just because it amazing

Well I read about AC1's story and background before playing AC2. Once I'm done with AC2, I wanna see if I really missed anything in AC1 and see the difference.
