Is it possible to make an online cross-console game?

It would be great if they somehow made a game where 360 owners could play against PS3 owners. Then we could take the fanboy war to the screen. Probably a pipe dream, but can you imagine playing R6with PS3 ownersvs 360 owners? Now that would be fun.

Simple answer: No.

Tentative answer: It won't happen because each company has a different online network to work with. Also, don't the PS3 and the 360 use different programming languages? OpenGL and DirectX to be exact?

All this talk of 360's playing against PC's is utter bull. No developer want to do it because the PC has the upper hand with a mod game and a mouse. I cant remember what game dev said it but it was somthing like 'I wouldn't use the cross format ability on FPS or RTS maybe games like tertris' OWNED!

I say if Steam releases Counter strike and provides there own servers (id be happy to pay monthly for) then everyone can connect to that Server. Consoles Only!

Its possiable and i think Steam are the only ones that can do it!

Some game developers (doing the game agency?) was talking about ps3 and pc - others have talked about 360 and pc so wouldn't that mean maybe you could somehow :) do this??

Either way it would be unfair to the 360 owners since they wouldn't get to play as glorious of a game as us PS3 owners :) (joke)

Final Fantasy XI is on PC, PS2, and X360.maxfoster75

And Final Fantasy XI can be played on the PS3 (the PS2 version) so there you go. It's obviously possible, since it's happening RIGHT NOW!

In generall I imaging a cross-platform MMO would be pretty easy to pull off on Xbox 360 and PS3.
