Ok I've juste bought a brand new NHL 09 (for 40 bucks, which was basically a robbery) and I've got a major problem scoring goals.

I've created a Pro, started a career and some stats I've just looked at are quite astonishing. I've played 11 games, we as a team scored 5 goals... out of 227 shots. My center (forward) player has gone 0 for 91 for himself (I take most shots, the other players on my team just don't take shots, seriously, I don't understand why they're not shooting when they're right in front of the net....). I must say all 91 shots haven't been all that fantastic, about 40 were very easy to stop. But man, 0 for 91, with half of them in the slot?

Plus "each" time my skater "steps" on the ice the other team scored, 17 out of 18 goals the other teams scored were with my player on ice.

One could say I'm just a real bad NHL 09 gamer. Which is part true.

But when I play a normal game with NHL teams, let's say Pittsburgh vs Philly or Montreal vs Detroit, I can score. In fact I think I score over 2 goals per game in "play now" mode, even though I have way more losses than wins.

Anyway, that's my story, what do you think?

Oh, and don't get me wrong. It's a superb game, great controls, gameplay, graphics, a lot of game modes, etc.... I just don't get the "scoring a goal" thing. And I live in Quebec, where hockey is more important than air.

Practice. I played NHL08 religiously, and now 09. Go into Practice mode, do Team Practice -> Rush -> 1 on 0. Just practice your shooting, you'll start to learn what angles work and what don't. Don't use it as a shootout, try and take shots from areas that you get chances from in a real game.

The game is a lot like real hockey, try and grind out your goals, poke in rebounds cycle the puck etc. Also learning to make the defender screen his goalie before you shoot helps. When you have the puck behind the net, try and throw it in front for someone to stuff in a quick one timer.

In Be a Pro mode, hitting R1 while the computer has the puck, will tell him to take a shot.

Well I've tried anything possible. One timer, from behind the net, dekes, quick passing, long range in the corners, in the slot, standing in front of the net redirecting pucks. Nothing works, I'm currently 0 for 97, team 0 for 240 something, been on the ice 20 of the 21 opponents goals.

What's maddening me the most is that opposing teams are scoring goals from behind the net, off a defender and/or the goalie, they score some ugly goals you just shake your head and ask "how the hell can they score so many ugly goals by pure chance and I can't score one."

I gotta appreciate the realism 'cause that's how real life is, most of the time.
