I've read plenty of things that say getting a PS3 is a waste of money and others that say it's a deal once you think about it. So, what do you think about it? Would it be better for me to wait for one, or just go ahead and get one?

Getting it at launch is a waste of money because of the lack of games, now the PS3 has great titles out and coming out in the months to come.

The short answere is simple. It is certainly worth the price. The long answer is a little more complex. Anything is only worth what you're willing to pay. I bought the PS3 right after launch because it's worth it to me to have the best console hardware out there and some of the best games ever to play it on.

But it's also worth it to me to have a 360 and a Wii. So decide what kind of gaming experience you want and then figure out if it's worth it.

it depends. I just got one day after thanksgiving bundled with ratchet and clank and casino royale. I play games A LOT and watch A LOT of movies so for me it was worth it (and i could afford it) do you have a 360? if yes will you use it for blu ray a lot? if yes how much do you play games? if A LOT then yes it's worth it. if you don't play games A LOT though i don't really recommend it. if you answered no to having a 360 i would recommend getting that first. UNLESS blu ray is one of the main reasons you want a ps3 THE MAIN THING IS THAT YOU CAN AFFORD IT!!!! (note if you get the $400 one it doesnt include any hd cables and the hdmi cable is $80 so only get it if you plan to buy the $25 components like i had to

YES! it's worth every penny that you'll spend! just get one and prove all those PS3 haters wrong!!! theirs are running on their maximum power, while the PS3 is just showing its potential... only more good things to come. like the blu-ray... time will come that everything will become blu-ray, like what happened from cd's to dvds... and when that happens, theirs will be out of the game, while ours will still be running. then you can think about this day and smile to yourself and say... damn, i made the right decision, and thanks to those guys in the gamespot forum who helped me make up my mind. and to the haters... it's just because they can't afford it... but the truth is, they want it too!

Considering the games out, and are coming out + being one of the cheapest best blurays players on market to my knowledge, it's worth the price.

399 for an 80 gig is a good price, too bad they only sell the new PS3's.

It was worth it for me. I bought my 60 G last winter when Sony announced that BC would be eliminated. The darned thing cost me 500 bucks, but once Blu-Ray won the Hi-Def war the value of the PS3 increased for me. I play games as much as I watch movies and must admit that the built-in Blu-Ray player is very handy as it saves me space and money. The browser is clumsy, but since I don't have a PC at home I can now correspond with my friends via e-mail anytime that I want instead of using the PC at work.

However, the main reason to buy a video game console is to play games and the PS3 has them now. Don't let anyone convince you that it does not. In fact, at this point in the PS3 cycle you should be able to build a library quickly without breaking the bank. There are several quality games available for 20 to 30 dollars. Another reason to buy a PS3 is that quality games are dropping in price at a quicker rate. Metal Gear Solid 4 dropped 20 dollars in just 6 months. And believe me, the game is great.

I can't compare the PS3 to the other consoles to persuade you to buy one, since this is not the place for that. If you want to learn for yourself then use a friend's PS3 for a few hours and tell everyone what you think of it.

Its a great buy. you get next gen gaming and blue ray play back. i mean a good blue ray player alone will run you 250+$. plus its more reliable than that other system so less worry about hardwear failures.

get one from amazon for 5$... under 10ft and there is no difference between a 80$ hdmi cable and a 5$ one...

BS you can get HDMI cables for 20 bucks or less just about any wear only suckers waste money on those ripp off monster cables . thread creator just google it. you find that all the experts agree that cheap HDMI cables give just as good a picture as those over priced cables.

I have both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 and I can tell that ever since I got my PS3 my 360 has been consuming dust. There are so many good games out now for the PS3 that I am dying to play that I haven't even got around to playing my Xbox in over a month lol. Not to mention that you have Blu-Ray on the PS3 and it is a good quality Blu-Ray player. Just bought the Dark Knight and also have Batman Begins and King of New York which all are amazing movies and they look and hear amazing in HD. IMO PS3 will end up shinning in the long run, it is slowly picking up it's speed against the 360 and I estimate that within the next year it will be equal or even surpass the 360.
