The short answere is simple. It is certainly worth the price. The long answer is a little more complex. Anything is only worth what you're willing to pay. I bought the PS3 right after launch because it's worth it to me to have the best console hardware out there and some of the best games ever to play it on.
But it's also worth it to me to have a 360 and a Wii. So decide what kind of gaming experience you want and then figure out if it's worth it.
It was worth it for me. I bought my 60 G last winter when Sony announced that BC would be eliminated. The darned thing cost me 500 bucks, but once Blu-Ray won the Hi-Def war the value of the PS3 increased for me. I play games as much as I watch movies and must admit that the built-in Blu-Ray player is very handy as it saves me space and money. The browser is clumsy, but since I don't have a PC at home I can now correspond with my friends via e-mail anytime that I want instead of using the PC at work.
However, the main reason to buy a video game console is to play games and the PS3 has them now. Don't let anyone convince you that it does not. In fact, at this point in the PS3 cycle you should be able to build a library quickly without breaking the bank. There are several quality games available for 20 to 30 dollars. Another reason to buy a PS3 is that quality games are dropping in price at a quicker rate. Metal Gear Solid 4 dropped 20 dollars in just 6 months. And believe me, the game is great.
I can't compare the PS3 to the other consoles to persuade you to buy one, since this is not the place for that. If you want to learn for yourself then use a friend's PS3 for a few hours and tell everyone what you think of it.
I've read plenty of things that say getting a PS3 is a waste of money and others that say it's a deal once you think about it. So, what do you think about it? Would it be better for me to wait for one, or just go ahead and get one?DemonGal711Its a great buy. you get next gen gaming and blue ray play back. i mean a good blue ray player alone will run you 250+$. plus its more reliable than that other system so less worry about hardwear failures.
