Is it SAFE to upgrade the harddrive of a PS3?!

i'm a proud PS3 40GB owner, and i have been enjoying it in every way possible... especially since i bought the HDMI cable and connected it to my HD ready plasma tv, the graphics are OUT OF THIS WORLD !!!!

however... i want to upgrade my capacity from 40GB to 120GB or say 140GB.... is it safe to replace the harddrive inside the PS3 with the same kind but bigger capacity?! would the system get corrupt or what ?! ???!?!

please help !!!

Very Safe. It's so easy as well. I went to a 250gb from 60gb and it's awesome! Except for those damn SCREWS!

Read...the...instruction...manual. And, be careful with the screws, they're very easy to strip.

Yes but be arware once you format and install everything 120 will be more like 101gig so you may want to go 140 or higher if you want well over 100gig

For the price difference now it might be a good idea to just max the drive space out to a 350 gig HDD. The price difference isn't really that much from the smaller capacity HDD to the larger capacity HDD's for what you get from one over the other. The way I always compare is I see how much a HDD cost per gig (or back before the gig I used the mb to compare). Sometimes the larger drives cost less per gig than the smaller ones.

I upgraded to the 320GB and it works great, just make sure you back up everything.

Yea it is safe. Just make sure you BACK UP whatever you need and get them off the hard drive.

This includes your GAME SAVE DATA, and whatever files/videos you need.

You won't be able to access your old hard drive to retrieve the saves later.

This includes your GAME SAVE DATA, and whatever files/videos you need.

You won't be able to access your old hard drive to retrieve the saves later.

Get a USB thumb drive and copy them onto that. Once the new drive is in, just copy the saves onto the new hard drive.
