Thats inncorrect. If you don't have it tied to a credit line with your bank, then it won't run, even if there is a Visa logo on your card. Basically, the Credit account is assurance that you have the funds in your bank account at the time of purchase. If you don't, then your bank will charge you through the mail or at the time of your next deposit.Debit cards can always be used as credit
And yes it's secure you really think Sony would scam you

My debit card is not linked to a credit account, so it would not work - I would have to enter a PIN number in order to use it, and unfortunately the PSN store dos not provide this service yet.
i use a debit card it has nothing to do with credit its using my money from my account. aslong as it has the visa or mastercard logo i doubt you will have any problems.yonnexBelieve it or not, your card is supported by a credit account that your bank provides. If you spend more than you have in your account, then your bank will front the money and you will owe them the next time you deposit.
sucks to be you then :)yonnexI have no need for it. I'm 24, I never overdrawl from my account, and I have a credit card with afairlydecentinterest rate.

Lord, I don't think there is anything people are more misinformed about than DEBIT cards.
If it is a Debit card you can always use it as credit. When you go to the store, or Macdonalds, or wherever the f*** hand them your debit card, they say "CREDIT or DEBIT?" you say credit and it will still work, the difference is they may ask you to see some ID, you wont have to input your PIN #, but you have to sign the receipt. You can do this with the SAME card you go to the bank and withdraw or deposit money to the ATM. (also, with the debit method they usually charge you .5 to $1.50, using the credit method doesnt cost you anything)
If you cant do the ^^above^^ Then it is not a debit card. It has nothing to do with being "linked to a credit account". If they are telling you that if I was you I would switch banks bro

W RO N GWhen you first get your debit card, they automatically set you up for credit protection, hence linking your card to your banks credit account. If you do run your card through as credit, then it will work. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THIS SECURITY, IT WILL NOT COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION.

I have mine setup to where if I over withdrawal, they just take money out of my savings, and I have plenty in there. Using a debit card on PSN works great. I like it because as soon as I buy something, I can go online to look at my bank account, and it usually post on my account within seconds.
Ok so if this is automatic then wouldnt every debit card have it?thageneral3As long as you opt to have it when you sign up for your debit card. You sign a sheet for this when you open your account. its agood service to have, I justdon't need it.

At Thegeneral, he's right. Not all debit cards will work as credit. I am almost positive though, that all debit cards that have Visa on them will work as credit. Why argue this point, it is a damn debit card. People just love to start arguments.

the visa logo is on all debit cards nowadays. One last thing I forgot to mention: If you are able to run your debit card as credit, then you have a VISA check card. Mine is not a VISA check card, it's an oldschool ATM debit card.

that's what I was arguing with you the whole time, i was telling you if you cant than its not a debit card.
ATM Card=/= Debit Card=/= Credit Card
I don't think they call it a "check card" anymore those are extinct. Btw, Visa isn't the only one that does it, mine is a Mastercard, Washington Mutual is my bank
you can use debit
debit works great. and its very safe unless you share your account with other people(don't do it! unless you are 115% sure they are trust worthy!)
you just can't use an ATM card.expanded
Yeah, doing that is the worst, your bank acount and everything could be stolen. As long as you keep your acount info, to yourself. =3

Sorry man, a debit card that only utilizes ATM is still considered a debit card. You're wrong. It definitely works. all you have to do is register it with the card companies website, and you're gold. There are instructions on how to do so on the piece of cardboard it comes on. This enebales you to make online transactions. Unfortunately, some of these cards may charge a fee in order to use them, so read the fine print carefully.i am going to get a prepaid credit card that u can't use as a debit card
does it work?
also, can i use credit cards in other countries' stores using there accounts??
MYDMHD
debit cards USUALLY have visa logo on it :? so that should work
expanded
any debit card with a visa logo is just as safe as credit
yeah it's safe...goes straight to Sony's official servers.I_AM_GAMER
That's good to hear, I haven't purchased anything out of the PS Store yet, but I probably will in the near future (for Warhawk and Folklore add-ons).

I hope your mom knows what you are doing. The security code is back of the card where you sign and it's the last 3 digits

dont worry she knows :OI don't think it's as safe as we think.
I'm beginning to receive charges from the playstation store that I did not authorize.
I am the only one that uses my PS3 so it would be impossible for it to happen on my end without my knowledge.
Also, the charges are not showing up in my account information on my PS3. The charges are only showing up in my bank account.
I have written the playstation store to resolve the issue, but have yet to receive word.
Regardless, I would definately watch your accounts carefully from now on.
It's possible that someone out there has found a way to hack into the PS3 accounting system.
Good luck!
I smell BS...especially with that being your first post.
Debit cards are safe...I use mine to order everything online, including the PSN.
