I'm just wondering if it would be to late into this generation to go pick up and buy the playstation 3 or should i just hold off on spending $300 and spend it when next gen begins. The reason i ask is because my fourth xbox is breaking down again and i'm tired of dealing with it. Also how is the PS3 controller for shooters and is it true that if the disc is blu-ray it won't scratch as easy?

Try not to flame i know i should be googling but i just want to hear some user based opinions.

It's probably the best time to pick one up since the really good stuff has been hitting the PS3 this year.

Not sure about the scratching thing, I haven't had a problem with it since I keep my games all shelved and in mint condition.

And the controler is fine, no different from the ps2 one, more sensetive I guess. I personally enjoy the 360 controller for shooters though, just feels better. But really not much of a difference.

I just got my PS3 in December of 2008, so I'm a latecomer myself to this gen of console gaming. No regrets here. I have 15 PS3 games now. :D

The PS3 is great, so there's no reason to hold off on one. There are fantastic games out for it, and plenty more on the way. It's definitely not too late to get a PS3.

It has been shown from a handful of articles and interviews that the ps3 and xbox 360 will have a lifetime duration of 10 more years starting from now. (not litereally now, like this year now, u get the idea lol). Well technically xbox wants to beat the ps3's duration by 1 day but haha that's a joke. So no it it definitely not late at all cause u got soo many years to go. I also purchased the ps3 recently during winterbreak 2008 and I absolutely love it. It definitely got me all into the high definition and 1080p stuff that the ps3 can deliver. And also pick up a copy of metal gear solid 4 if u are buying one that game will blow you away.

I know not as many people chat online or so I've heard but does the microphone come with the bundle or not? I'm thinking of picking up the 80GB system.

As for blu-ray scratching, it honestly seems that way to me, but I also take really good care of my stuff. I believe blu-ray has a protective coating or something, but maybe that's marketing talking.

And honestly it couldn't be a better time to jump into the PS3, IMO.

1. Format war has long been over, and blu-ray is still standing.

2. The latest 80gb and 160gb models use less electricity and run cooler, so in theory less chance of YLOD, which was never as rampant as RROD or E74 anyway.

3. Rumors of a price drop. Sony keeps denying it, but I'd be shocked if they didn't cut prices sometime in 2009. How much they drop it and when they drop it is anyone's guess though.

4. And last but definitely not least, teh gamez!!1 PS3 has some amazing games and even more amazing games coming out this year and beyond. :) Seriously, we're not even at E3 yet, and Sony has already revealed an amazing line-up.

No .. but you can get the official Sony Bluetooth Headset for around 40-50 dollars .. I've heard good things about it ..

And most Bluetooth Headsets will work .. I have a Plantronics one that works amazingly ..

It does not come with it. Most people buy either SOCOM or Warhawk, because they both come with a bluetooth headset. SOCOM comes with the official Sony bluetooth headset. Warhawk comes with a non-official bluetooth headset. I've heard bad things about SOCOM, as a game, but supposedly there have been patches and fixes. Warhawk is a fun game and well worth the price considering it comes with a bluetooth headset. So I guess it depends if you prefer the official headset and a so-so game or a pretty fun game and a non-official headset.

I think it's the perfect time to get one. KZ2 came out not that long ago, and there are several other exclusives to catch up on or wait for. And I was kinda new to shooters when I got my PS3 and the controler is great for them I think. a little sensitive maybe I'm always doing melee attacks in Call of Duty when I'm trying to turn around too sharply or something. But PS3's don't break down too often but it can happen just take good care if you do get one.

If I were you, I would get one because its nice thing to have. Gets you into the HD age has some fun games and the online is free. I really dont think its ever to late to buy the console. If you do try to purchase games used, because one thing that I noticed about the ps3 is games are EXPENSIVE. It really messes up your finances if you a college student like myself. Rent game before you buy them, but yeah people will think your cool if you own one.

The Jabra headset that comes with Warhawk isn't the best quality, but the game itself is awesome ..

yeah, I haven't tried the official one, so I can't compare, but Warhawk is an awesome game. It's not mind-blowingly awesome, but it's very fun to play online.

Alright well thanks for the replies, i've decided ill go pick one up. All the games look pretty good to especially killzone 2. Hopefully the console doesn't decide to break down on me. One more question though does the system come with a rumble controller now or not? I know i should be googling but all i get is information about the japan consoles.

Unless you find some bundle pack or something, this is all it will come with:

PS3 console

AV cables (or whatever they're called, the red, white, yellow ones; no HDMI cables)

1 Dualshock 3 controller (the rumble controller)

80gb or 160gb hard drive

plus all the other usual features like built in wi-fi.

The 160gb version comes with Uncharted as well, which is an amazing game.

If you want an HDMI cable, buy it for about $5 on monoprice.com. Don't buy the rip off retail ones in stores for $80+ or whatever. They're a scam.

I enjoy the PS controllers a lot, but that is just personal opinion ..

I don't know if the disc itself is harder to scratch per-say .. but the Blu-Ray reader can pretty much read any disc, no matter its quality ..

Nah dude Blurays are definitely harder to scratch (and to stop from working)

1. They are multilayered, Pretty much impossible to damage both with one scratch.

2. Bluray layers are much less sensitive to scratch

3. Bluray discs have and extra hard scratch coating not included one DVD's.

And, I think you should get a PS3. Its not too late too get into this gen of gaming.

Late? There's a "time's running out" clock to buy a PS3? Might aswell save your money for PS4 and then two minutes after it's launched, decide you're going to save your money and wait for the PS5 instead. Because you never know how late and unpopular you're going to be if you don't buy a system the first ten seconds it's put on retail.

It's not too late to get a PS3 now. There are many awesome games out now and many coming out in the future. The controller is fine for shooters. it just may feel awkward and weird for you because you would be used to Xbox controllers.

Get it ! i got mine last december just for the exclusive games and's been all good thus far..more and more great games, Im really beginning to think that the ps3 has a solid chance of besting the 360 game library with better exclusives and better versions of some xbox games... Love my 360 though, the damn thing has broken up three times but i still love it...

not at all. 2009 is promising to be the most rocking year yet for the ps3.

It's definately not too late, in fact it's the best time to get one.

With games already released such as Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4, Resistance 2 and Killzone 2 plus games on the way such as God of War 3, Infamous, Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack In Time.

Not at all, the PS3 has at the bare minimum 2 years left in it
