Hey guys, I'm currently a Wii owner and I'm a bit fed up with not getting any of the great titles PS3 and 360 owners are both getting. I have to keep my Wii as the family owns the console, but I'm especially considering purhcasing a PS3. I have a couple questions that can hopefully be answered.

1. How costly is it to buy the PS3 as well as accessories? I'm a bit frugal as I don't have too much money (due to the labor laws in my province, I've only been legally allowed to work for several months now and haven't gotten a job yet).

2. Which additional accessories should I buy? These are general, like mic, memory cards etc. (Not particular Rock Band drumsets)

3. Is there a particular system package I should buy? I've been looking at prices at Wal-Mart and BestBuy, both have a variety of PS3 bundles (entertainment bundle, 80gb etc.) Oh! And I heard somewhere that there is supposed to be a a bundle that includes MGS4 and Killzone 2. Which store is selling this, at what time is it being released, and how much will it cost?

4. How much longer will the system be considered 'current gen'? If it is soon to be replaced with another system, I might as well just wait till next gen.

5.Online-does playing online cost anything and will I need a wireless internet router? If a wireless router is needed it should not be a huge problem.

Please remember to take into consideration with each of these questions that I am on a budget.

Thanks in advance! I'll check back in a couple hours.

yes it is worth it to get a ps3. reliable machine and the games are very much diffrent then 360s. and for accessories, really all you need to buy is maybe a dualshock 3 controller (for ultimate gaming duh!) and a headset for like 30 bucks to get an offical ps3 headset. after that thats all you really need, you get free online a cable comeswith it, the newer models dont have a card reader thing so if you want to watch AVI MPEG 4 vdeos from a flashdrive on your ps3 if you want (the file has to have the right codecs so be careful bout that) if youre online gamer online for ps3 is awesome, more people have mics now and it isnt as bad as it was back in the day and everyone is usually more friendly then on XBL.. and if you want the best deal for a Ps3 bestbuy is doing a MGS4 and killzone 2 80gb ps3 bundle at bestbuy for 400 dollars americano...two of the most owned Ps3 games with one bundle...its amazing

1. How costly is it to buy the PS3 as well as accessories? It is not very costly. All you need to do is buy the consol itself...All the other accessories are not a necessity. I personally don't use any accessories (i.e mic, eye toy, headset, Keyboard etc) Besides, if you already have a bluetooth headset for a phone I think it should work just fine with the PS3.Same thing applies to normal USB keyboards, cameras or mouse. If your pc's accessories are compatible with the ps3 then you just saved yourself the hastle of buying accessories that you don't need lol. Perhaps the only accessory you might need to purchase is an HDMI cable if you have an Hi-Def TV (you can get some for like 2 dollars if you look around carefully). But you still don't need an HDMI cable if you don't have it.

2. Which additional accessories should I buy? Like I stated above, you don't need any accessories. You can game just fine without them.

3. Is there a particular system package I should buy?I don't know if the deal is still going on..but I suggest you purchase the Killzone 2/MGS4 bundle that's being sold at best buy I think.

4. How much longer will the system be considered 'current gen'?Sony claimed they would support the PS3 for a total of ten years. I don't know if they actually plan on staying true to their word, but I personally believe it will still be good for another two or three years.

5.Online-does playing online cost anything and will I need a wireless internet router?Online playing is completely free as long as you have an internet connection. So if you own mgs4, you can play the multiplayer portion of the game free of charge without any monthly or yearly fees to SONY for online services and the sort. The PS3 has inbuilt wifi so you don't need wireless accessories. I've been playing wireless for quite some time lately. It also comes with an Ethernet cable if you want to use it.

edit:

Forgot to mention that you do need a wireless router to make use of the ps3's inbuilt wifi.

Please remember to take into consideration with each of these questions that I am on a budget.

Good luck. :P

Correction to what VerbalFilth said: It may have built in wi-fi, but you do need a wireless router in order to use it.

And the PS3 is much more reliable than the XBOX360 because the chances of the XBOX360 getting RROD are at least 30-35% while the PS3 is under 1%

1) Well its $399 plus tax and the only accesory you'll really probably need is an HDMI cord if you have a compatible HDTV and those are less than $15. Also if you want an extra controller that's $55. That's about all you might need. 2)You do not need a memory card since it comes with a 80gb hard drive which is much more than you'll probably ever need. Mics are optional and i personally just find them annoying. But like i said before you may want a second controller which is $55 but only if you want to play local multiplayer games. 3) Best Buy currently is selling the 80gb KZ2 and MGS4 bundle which you're talking about and that is $399 which is a great deal! I would suggest that strongly and it is available now. 4) Sony always have said that they have a 10 year life cycle for their systems and the ps2 which is its 10th year right now is still receiving games. The ps3 will not be replaced for i would say at the VERY least 4 years until the ps4 is announced. And it'll probably be a year after that before it is released so you will not have to worry about the ps3 getting replaced anytime soon. 5) The PSN has no monthly cost other than what you already pay to receive internet. If your ps3 is far away from any Ethernet ports than you will need a wireless router, but if it is close to an ethernet port than all you need is an ethernet cord from the port to your ps3. If you can try to use a wired connection as they're usually more reliable. Whew well i guess that's all!

I'm not gonna post all the exact stuff but the one thing I think people are missing is that the MGS4 and KZ2 bundle is through Best Buy, but it is only an online offer and it's a $399 (definitely best deal out there right now... Don't get sucked into buying some random game and a Blu-ray movie)... Everything else has been answered at least a 100 times in the last week in the other 1000 posts like this

Okay, is the MGS4/Killzone2 deals only avaliable in the US? I live in Canada and can't find it on BestBuy's Canadian website.

1.) How costly is it to buy the PS3 as well as accessories?

The cost of the console which includes one controller and standard-definition connector cables. What you "need" is an HDMI cord ($15 at Walmart, cheaper online), Blutooth headset (if online is your thing), optical cable for sound if you have a good receiver.

2. Which additional accessories should I buy?

A bigger harddrive is always a plus, but not necessary. NewEgg.com has 2.5" internal HD's of various sizes that will suit your needs. The BluRay remote from Sony is nice if you're going to watch a lot of movies.

Shop around. No timeline has been given for retailers, as far as I'm aware.

4. How much longer will the system be considered 'current gen'?

Kind of a "crystal ball" question, though I think there is another 3 years to be had with the current generation. I'd expect murmurings of a new set of systems perhaps by E3 next year, which puts them at a release in 2011 with games being made for the current gen for at least another year after that. Sony says 10 years. PS2 has done just that.

5. Online-does playing online cost anything and will I need a wireless internet router?

Either a direct connection with an ethernet cord to a router or a wireless connection to said router that is connected to the internet will be needed. Otherwise, connection is free.

Please don't ask if you should buy a PS3. You can make that decision on your own.
