Is it worth getting a PSP? I mean seeing the PS2 dead and PS3 way expensive?

Ok, I'm not rich. I've had the PS2 for 6 years now, and I'll always have it as my home console. But the past few months, there hasn't been any real game that I've been hooked on. I played the PSP in my friend's house and I got amazed that a little piece of metal has better graphics than my PS2.

It's probably the best handheld game and IMO, it has more mature games than the DS.... I can start saving forit and probably get itaround next year orI can save forthe PS3 but in my opinion that's gonna take a loooooong while......

I'm leaning on the PSP but how long in your opinion is this console's mileage? I mean howmany more years until this thing turns like the PS2?

ADVICES would be a BIG help. Thanks.....

I've been wondering how much life the PSP has left in it as well. I know it's not a concrete reason, but the Slim could actually be a sign that things are drawing to a close for it. In the past, newer models of Sony's consoles have always been a sign that the end is near.

For the PS1, Sony released the smaller PSone model in 2000, shortly before the PS2 was released. For the PS2, they released the Slim model, two years before the PS3 was released. Now that we have the PSP Slim, it could be time for them to make a new model at any moment. However, I wouldn't expect it any time too soon.

The fact of the matter is, the PSP has only been out for about two full years. The fact that the Slim model is out doesn't have to mean that it's almost done with that, but rather that Sony has faith in the product and is hoping to boost sales. And while the PSP will never match the DS' success, it still sells well enough, and is the first handheld to actually compete with a Nintendo one and not fail miserably. Because of this, I don't think Sony is just going to pack up and leave so soon after the Slim's release.

So, my prediction? I'd say it probably has two, maybe three years left in it at the most. They'll probably start development as soon as Nintendo announces theirs, to try to one-up the competition.

You know, the PSP is pretty new...

I think it might take a few years till the new handheld console from sony will be out, lets say, 3~4 years?

But the PSP is not like the PS2. O no.

You can watch movies, listen to your favorite music, look at your girlfriend pictures, and play some really great games.

The PSP is the PS3 little brother, and it will be worth to own it till the PS3 will be like the PS2 today, a bit dead.

But hey, look how much the PS2 survived, and look at the gameboy advence too!

The PSP is really recomended console.

So dude, get your own...

no worries, the psp has a long life ahead of it. I have an original and a slim. Plus there are plenty of games that appeal to all kinds of gamers & more great ones on the way.

Though I get what that one guy was saying about the end drawing near for systems when they release new models of it I think the slim was released as an adaptation to the market. The ds had a 'pocketable' feel to it and I think they wanted to steer the psp more towards that. I take it as a good sign that they are constantly updating the system and releasing some really great games in the near future that it probably won't die any time soon.

If only for the fact that they are able to take all the uber successful games of the psone and ps2 and convert them into handheldness I cannot forsee a time when they will stop making stuff for this.

I would however love to get a head into their R&D department just to see what kind of things are in store for the future. I mean the psp already does just about everything...

The psp is a multimedia gaming device, in 10 years if you still have one you could still be enyoing it for music and videos, and other "unspeakable" things if you know what i mean *wink*
