(Please read before you vote!)

Ok, I've been debating on whether or not I should pick up a PS3 for a few months now, and I'm turning to you guys for advice :) (A risky endeavor, I know :)) Here is my current situation (Oh, and I'm not bragging, I just want all the variables to be known):

I already have a xbox360, Wii, DS, PSP, PC (8800GTS aka Crysis-able), and the majority of the older consoles.
I recently bought a 42" 1080p LCD HDTV as well asa PSP. I had hoped the PSP would fulfill my lingering Sony lust (left over from my PS2 days of yore), but I fear that it will not do so.

I have been looking at the releases due out in 2008, and I've come to a few conclusions:
-There are a lot of multiplatform games due out (as usual)
-There are some interesting exlusives for each console
-My wallet is going to be hurting after next year

I would generally default to the 360 for multiplatform games, due to achievements and usually no real differences between the two. (If they design it for the x360 and PS3, they can't utilize the advantages of Blu Ray as well as an exclusive, aside from less compression, etc imo).

Time will be a factor for my gameplay, as I am a full-time college student and part-time worker (I work ~25 hours a week), but that hasn't stopped me from playing too many games so far...

Another thing that I'm not sold on is the PS controller. I like the heft of the Wii and 360 controllers and I love vibration. Are dual shock controllers on the way? I can deal with the PS3 controller... but I like 'em heavy!

Now, I'll list the games that interest me on the PS3 (released ones first):
Ratchet and Clank: Future Tools (I really enjoy Ratchet on the PSP)
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Resistance: Fall of Man
To be released:
Haze, Killzone 2, LilttleBigPlanet, GT5, Afrika, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy XIII, fl0wer, Infamous, Jak and Daxter, L.A. Noire, and White Knight Chronicles

I've been debating as to whether I should go for the 40gb or the 80gb as well, if I get one. I don't have any PS2 games any more, and although there are a few games out there I have yet to try that I would like to, I don't think that I'll really have time for them... so that points toward the 40gb model. Do you use the USB ports much? I have a 4-port USB hub if need be. I think that I may buy a 160gb hdd to use in the PS3, although I don't know how much I would use it as a media center... between my 360, PC, and PSP, I'm pretty well covered...

Money isn't a huge issue, but I try not to spend it frivolously. (Unlike the rest of my family, I consider gaming a passion more than a waste of time :)) Given my current situation, do you guys recommend that I buy a PS3? I'm trusting you to give me a reasonably unbiased answer, however naive that may be :) My options are listed in the poll. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to your responses!

Happy Gaming, Yoshi

since you have many other options for gaming and aren't interested in ps2 games, I say go with the 40GB.

multiplatform games will have advantages and disadvantages for each console, xbox 360 will have better multiplayer, ps3 is starting to have better graphics (burnout paradise and devil may cry 4), but you want to make sure you buy a console for its exclusives or else you won't be happy with it.

it looks like you've looked over them and chosen a lot of good ones, so I say go for it.

If playing all your PS2 games and having a lot of HDD space is important get the 80gb model.

I think you should get the 40gb

I only use the usb ports to charge the controller, so 4 usb ports are not necessary. And if you were to want more memory on your PS3, you could always back up the hard drvie and add more, so my reccomendation is a 40gb.

The heavier dual shock controllers are available now via exporting them from overseas, but they will be available in the very near future in North America, so that worry shouldn't hinder your decision.

This is probably the best time to get a PS3 if you want all those games that you listed. Since you don't have anymore PS2 games I would say go with the 40gb.

Dude go for it. I was a huge nintendo guy, still am. I never bought a PS2 or PS1. I went for it, and it felt kind of strange the first day, but I am so glad I got the PS3. Its a fun system and it has a lot of nice features and games out right now and coming in the next year and beyond.

I didn't know anybody else knew about Flower.

Well, if you're not planning on getting any cIassic PS2 games you might come across, then I'd have to say go with the 40GB. If you plan to use it as a media center, or get lot's of games for it that do HDD installs, then I'd recommend getting the HDD upgrade like you said.

I would recommend getting the 40GB since your not going to be playing any ps2 games and if you plan to play a lot of games and do quite a bit of downloading, go with the hdd upgrade.

20gb has worked well enough for my xbox over the past year, so I don't think 40gb will be a problem :) All I'd put on there are PSN games, maybe a movie or two, songs, and some demos, really :)

Well, the deed is done. I bought the 40gb PS3 and Ratchet and Clank. I haven't played any games yet, as my friend is hogging my TV (Damn Mass Effect's greatness :)), but Spiderman 3 looks amazing. I'm looking forward to Ratchet and Clank. Also, which would be the better buy, Ninja Gaiden Sigma or Resistance Fall of Man for $40? I've never played NG and I'm unfamiliar with Resistance beyond knowing that it was one of the few great games out there in the early days :) Thanks for teh help guys.

Buy COD4. It's alot better than Resistance or Ninja Gaiden.

Buy Resistance: FoM now! You've played Ninja Gaiden/NInja Gaiden Black, right? Then there's no need. Save your $40 and put it towards something you haven't played in any form.

Nono, never played ninja gaiden before. I'm leaning toward resistance now, if not some other game. And also... I haven't seen you forever, bioshock! I didn't know you trolled... er... used the PS3 forums, too! Epic win!!! No More Heroes does look interesting btw.

Go with Resistance: Fall of Man. You won't dissappointed. Besides, Ninja Gaiden 2 is a 360 exclusive, while the sequel to Resistance is slated for release late '08 or early '09.

:D Oh crap, if that's the case, do not miss out on Ninja Gaiden. It's one of the most challenging and excellent action games out there. Haha, yeah....my 360 is in for repair right now, so I've been playing a lot of PS3. Just imported GT5: Prologue and have been playing the crap out of it. Damn RROD! Anyways, No More Heroes is definitely one of my most hyped 08 titles, even if it scores poorly. It's just one of those weird and obscure games that I have to get my hands on. :)

id go with a 40gb because 40gb and a few usb ports arent worth 100 bucks and because you dont seem to need to play ps2 games i think the extra features wouldnt be worth it for you.

For Resistance vs NGS you need to ask yourself: 1) Would I rather play a FPS or action game and 2) Do I want to play it online. Resistance has great online, but if you, don't have online, don't like online, or probably won't play it online much due to your owning of all platforms and therefore limit of gaming time NGS might be the better choice. Also they both have demos on the store so you can use those to gauge your interest in both.
