Is it worth it to get a PS3 this late in the game??

The Wii is almost at the end of it's lifespan since the WiiU is coming soon, and my 360...well...yeah... So I need a new home console to entertain me until Wii U comes out. My birthday is in August and I'm highly considering a PS3, but what I want to know is if it's worth it to get one now or to wait until the PS4? I know there are a ton of great games on the PS3, but is their new console close enough on the horizon so that I could wait it out? And if I do get one, what are the options for models that I can get? Thanks

Yes it's worth it. If you did some research you'll know that PS4 won't be here until 2013 the earliest.

Also, your best option is to get a brand new slim, 160GB or 320GB depends on how much stuff you download.

I'd assume about 2 and a half years until the next Sony console. Yeah I'll go for it. So the $300 one is the cheapest model, correct? I don't need a ton of memory since I probably won't do substantial amounts of downloading. Is that the only thing the most expensive model has over the cheaper models? More memory? Or does it have other stuff like backwards compatiblity and such?

since you have the other two consoles, you must look to the exclusives which are quite plentiful and good for the most part

The best of which are inFAMOUS, inFAMOUS 2, Modnation Racers, 3D Dot Game Heroes, and Ratchet and Clank a Crack in Time IMO. I haven't played Valkyria Chronicles, but I'm sure that it would be one to add to my list

It is more worth it now than it ever has been and will only get more "worth it" as the system ages and more games are released.

i would say yes its worth it....i bought mine at the end of july last year then a month or two later they released a 160gb version for same price(something to think about)...besides this year has amazing games releasing, so don't expect to have any spare $$$

Late? It is never to late to get a PS3. You could get the $299.99 Playstation 3 160GB Slim that comes with a pack-in game Call of Duty Black ops. (in My area there is a promotion for fathers day. You can get an extra controller (this weekend only)

So yep 2011 is a great time to get a PS3. Back in November 2006 a PS3 60gig would have cost twice that and no pack in game. So now you get 100GB more and a Game.

Plus 2011 has turned out to be the best year for great games onPlaystation 3. Plus you can catch up on PS3 games you have missed since 2006 for low prices now. (Plus 2011 new releases)

I can get a 160 GB with Black Ops for 300, or a 320 GB with the Move for 350 :shock: Sounds like the latter is more worth it?

hey, gamestop has a deal where you get a ps3, black ops, the first map pack for black ops, and a $50 gift card, all for just $300.

and the president of sony in america said that they have no plans for a ps4 because ps3 uses blu ray and hold like 50 gb of data, so they dont really need new hardware, xbox uses dvd which hold only like 8 gb of data.

Go get one right now, loads of exclusives already available and plenty more to come. Ypu are just gonna enjoy it. Get one and have fun.

i would've wholeheartedly recommended getting it half a year ago... now? not so much, after a string of underwhelming exclusives and most importantly one of the biggest network security breaches in gaming history. the system itself is marvellous, of course, but all things considered it's no longer a no-brainer that it was.

also, i'm sure you have your eyes on PS4. while i agree with the other posters that the 8th gen PS won't be here before 2013, the truth is nobody is really sure. both PS and PS2 had around 6 years before their successors were released, and PS3 was out in 2006 - so PS4 may not be as distant as we think.

Absolutely worth the price of admission, PS4 won't be out for YEARS so you have nothing to lose (other than the money) and a lot of great exclusives to gain!
