However, even with previous MGS games, they had some sort of story flashback things (about certain characters and events that are relavent).
Yeah you might lose out on something but i think i heard about those flashbacks as well. But I strongly recommend if you have any intention of getting 4 that you pick up the other three. they are pretty cheap these day (MGS1=$15, MGS2=$5, MGS3=$10) and I can say that you won't be dissappointed.

He's talking about the announced MGS4 80GB Bundle.
I own all the MGS games, and yes the storyline of all of them were difficult to understand the first time through. However, the gameplay itself is fantastic. MGS has always had a playing style of it's own, and the next installment seems will top them all. If you don't get MGS4, you will regret it.

Yea you get to a scene thats connected to a past game. Hit a button and watch how it played out on that game. Kinda cool.
