is monster hunter 2 freedom really THAT good?

i don't own a psp, but i'm going to be purchasing one quite soon [for ff7: crisis core and GoW mainly]. but i hear all these people saying monster hunter is just so damn good, but most of the professional reviewers are "meh" on it... so is it just fanboy hype or is there a real gem here? because the game itself looks pretty cool but its hard to tell if its really worth $40.

same as MHF1, rent it and see if you like it, I didn't, so meh! (LOL)

check out Brave Story New Traveler, best RPG for the psp ever; Naruto ultimate ninja heroes, *** was better but I'm enjoing it a lot anyway

Monster hunter is basically a hack and slash game. MHF2 has a crafting system, but it's not deep or anything. You basically go around killing monsters and getting better weapons and armor, with absolutly no story. I guess it depends on the person, but I tend to agree with "the professianl reviewers" :|
