I think most of us have seen the recent news regarding the price increase of its Xbox live service. That been said, what really tickles me is how alota people(mostly americans) can claim the fee is not a big thing ignoring the fact that thousands of people from other countries would also suffer the same faith.

I'm african and i know i have to work thrice as hard to earn what the average american would earn, not to mention someone from China or Argentina.I personally think its unfair to even charge for it in the first place cause the PSN is free and i think the service isnt really much different from each other(online gaming basicly)

I just hope Sony dont follow suit(i know they wont) cause it seems people who have lover affairs with a particular product loose thier sense of reasoning and just let these companies get away with murder all the time(Activision been the first)

As a company, Sony could justify it any way they want to, I'm just glad they haven't yet. They're in it in to make money, thats all the justification they need if they were so inclined to charge a fee.

It's not really a question of being able to justify it as much as it is a question of how badly the backlash in the PS community would hurt their business/reputation, IMO.

Your ignorance of what other cultures have to go through to make a living (how hard they work), as well as their economic outlook is astounding.

1 thing every1 forgets is it cost sony money to run psn. nothing in this world is free and if it is its only for a while. psn has been making sony lose money. just 2 quarters ago sony lost $893 million ans sony said it was psn that was loosing alot of it for them. it cost sony 16 cents a gig so every who downloads of psn is using there bandwith also not just yours.

If Sony started charging for psn, then I'd just not be playing multiplayer games. Been doing it that way for years. Sure, it'd be a bit of a loss, given that I do go online from time to time, but I've always preferred playing single player games anyway.

Just... Stop. Please. Unless you can substantiate your accusations, you're blowing smoke. The more you say things like the above, the further you dig yourself into the ground. My brother-in-law hasn't had a job in over a year and a half, he's got a masters degree with thirty years' experience, a wife, and two kids to feed and he's UNEMPLOYED. So comparatively, seeing as you HAVE A JOB, in today's world and the global economy such as it is, how about you just be thankful - and QUIET. You are coming off as foolish, ethnologically & economically ignorant, insensitive, and insulting.

Its a business. They're going to do whatever they can to make money. I'd classify making money for your business as 'justifiable'. Its up to the consumers whether they're willing to pay or not. If people keep paying then they're going to keep charging. Simple economics.

I completely agree! i pay for psn plus because sony has been paying for me to play on psn for 2 years now. You can say its all about making money, but if i had to pay 16 cents per gig for people to play online for a system that, imo, came packaged with the best deal (blu ray, ps1, ps2, ps3 player, and wifi built in) I would have tried to make up for hose losses loooong ago, im surprised that it took this long for them to do it. With all of the multiplayer games that have released in the past year i would be a fool to think that i could keep playing online for free. Luckily i can due to sony's optional pay move, but i choose to pay.

There is no reason to bring up where someone is from in regards to the topic... The statement could have been that there are other gamers here who are outspoken without pointing fingers. Claiming Americans are the most vocal about wealth on this forum cannot be proved and furthermore paints my countrymen as garish and uncouth, which I don't appreciate. If I were to make accusations about people of HIS nationality, I'd be branded a bigoted American pig, and the community would be well within it's rights to ask me to watch my choice of words when generalizing about the given nationality. When I asked him to stop bringing nationality into this conversation, the "facts" (his words, not mine) were reiterated as if no one had pointed out that the words were hurtful. Not cool.

I don't need to chill as I am not worked up. I just think that what was said is not right, and I won't sit around and let someone condemn an entire country with spurious accusation and character assassinations with no hard evidence to support it - No matter which nation is being put down.

Peace.

It's not an argument. Slandering race, creed, color, or religion are no-nos on this site for a reason. I'm not asking for global change, I'm asking for fair play on a gaming website. There is a reason why they don't allow political discussion on here and it's because it breeds ill will. Now, I have none against Africans, I don't make nasty commentary about my perceptions of other countries here... Neither should anyone else.

First of all most of those are kids posting about ease of paying because well they don't work. Believing what you see on TV is just absurd. I can assure you most average Americans don't have facelifts or inject their lips with botox or what ever else those freaks do to their face. PSN is free and I for one applaud Sony for this. Xbox Live costs money for a number of reasons. The biggest reason would be all the voice chat and message features which are run on dedicated servers which cost money. I'm not condoning it but a fee is justified for those features. Not to bash you but man it really sickens me how Americans are constantly bashed based on misconceptions. Sure we have morons and people with more money than they know what to do with, but we also have homeless, poverty and people scrubbing toiloits to provide for their families.

"... and then you have these people(MOSTLY americans) who come an boast of how they can pay."

You cannot show evidence to support this statement, and it paints a less-than-savory picture of the Americans on this website (boasting, in English, is not a sought-after quality in polite company). This is no more fair than saying "The Africans on this website are ignorant of people's feelings". It's not a fair thing to assert, because in actuality, it's only you who has offended anyone and not the greater African gaming community. I'm sure there are plenty of African Nationals on this site who aren't as careless with their words. And words can start fires which only war can extinguish. I forget who said that originally, but it's a good rule of thumb when speaking publicly. Don't condemn a group unless you can prove said condemnation as fact, otherwise you risk a battle you probably won't win.

We're far from a war here, but I ask that in future you consider who you're possibly going to offend when making statements using nationality, race, creed, color, etc., which could be taken in a poor light.

Now, peace be unto you, Spider. I see you here a lot, and I don't want to be thought of as a preacher.

The reality is, the only justification a company needs is if the consumers are willing to pay for it. None of the console makers are so hard up for cash that they need to charge to keep the servers up and running. MS does it solely because their big games are mostly MP shooters, so they know the audience will be willing to pay as it is a very MP heavy console. For Sony it might not work as well, because their lineup isn't so MP dominated.

absolutely agree. when you think about things from a business point of view, sure the PSN is free and its costing Sony A LOT (as previous posters stated), but that would draw in more people who dont want to pay for online gaming, maybe even xbox owners. This is probably their strategy, where they're losing money, their deffinitly making it up from something else, otherwise it wont be free ;) this is their strategy i guess. IF sony decides that they needed more money and they're going to implement a monthly or yearly fee, I might not subscribe to that service. I will be willing to pay 10-15$ extra for games rather than paying a regular fee.
