So I have a 40GB PS3, and it's great, but my only regret is that it can't play PS2 games. I have a PS2, but it's in my basement, and I don't want to bring it up to my TV and have to switch between consoles. I just beat DMC4 last week and being my first DMC game, it naturally made me want to play the first 3 DMC games... however you can see my dilemma. So does anyone think this could ever happen?

it can be done through software emulation but not yet. perhaps in the future sony will put a ps2 emulator on the ps store for a fixed price so people with the 40gb can upgrade and have bc, but at the moment no and it probibly wont ever happen

i doubt it. 80GB did not have EE chip but still had the synthesizer which is shared by 20Gb and 60GB. I read somewhere the 40GB lacks the synthesizer and EE chip so no ps2 BC. Well, you still got ps1 BC.

I dont think its a possibility and if you really want to play it that much, why wait for an update. Go out and buy the other ones and stand a little bit of tediuosness of switching consoles. However in the end you will awarded with an incredible experience.

Good Luck.

aye tis. the euro PS3 60GB model had all the PS2 hardware ripped out of it. its all done using software emulation on the PS3. the sheer performance gap between the 2 machines makes this possible. a simple change in firmware would enable the feature. sony have already developed the software to perform the emulation.

will it happen though? unlikely. if they do allow it then ull probably need to pay a fee or something.
