Is PS2 compatability REALLY gone in the 40GB?

Like is it REALLY removed or is it still there only Sony locked it from being used?

yes atm but a firmwear update in the future will solve this, sony are going to use softwear emulation just like the 360. but for now yes no b/c. but really who cares ? i bought a ps3 to play ps3 games, didn't you? jaredrichards3

I do, but playing my ps2 on my widescreen hdtv makes the games look crappy, much worse than on my sdtv. Playing ps2 games on my ps3 on my hdtv makes them look much better than playing them on my ps2 on my sdtv. I'm glad I got a 60gb, as I still play ps2 games. and PS1 games.
