Lol, wut?
PS3, is their gaming division. They make cellphones, televisions and other electronics. The gap of profit that the PS3 was making them lose, is now closing. so no.
I read a while ago that Sony was no longer losing money with tha PS3sJKusanagi
Even better, now they have three killer app's on the market now...
They're going to start breaking even early next year. After that, we'll see a price cut and Sony will start to become more aggressive. Nothing to worry about, young grasshopper.Floppy_Jim
I guarantee you that there will not be another price cut any time soon. I bought the ps3 day 1 & paid nearly $700 for my 60gb & now ps3's are waaay cheap, so forget about it.

theres suppose to be one in marchand thats pretty dumb to say there won't be another one any time soon because the price has gone down a lot from launch over 2 years ago...you do know that over time things get cheaper and cheaper to make? plus they do have to stay competitive you know
I have heard that every ps3 that is sold, sony loses money. Is the ps3 gonna die soon?? How much profit does sony make from the ps3 and psp? Arsarabies22
Sony is not just a gaming company, they have many different divisions, currently their gaming sector is in the red, b/c of their initial investments in future tech (blu-rays for gaming) give it 2 years and their gaming sector should be in the green, assuming that gaming sector stays the way it has been for the past couple of months, defying the economic consensus that people are buying less, while recently people have been buying more games, although that probably has to do with the sheer number of magnificent games coming out across the board on all consoles and pc.
And considering all the high caliber releases coming next year at least for the ps3, I really don't think you need to worry about the PS3 not selling, or rather dying or even sony going out of business
ey if GM is going bankrupt dont count sony out :oLol, Sony? Bankrupt? Do you know how many billions of dollars worth of profit they make every year?
Ps3 is losing like $50/console. Who cares.
They make money off PSP and Ps2 is still making loads.

Whoa whoa whoa. Whats wrong with GM quality? Theres 7 people in my family who are driving GM cars and have never had to be repaired even once and one of the cars is 25 years old and still going strong. Anyways to stay on topic. Every gaming console ever made has been more expensive than what it was being sold for. After a certain amount of time the parts become cheaper as already stated. Then profits start happening. Sony has more than enough ways of generating profits other than the playstation. To the guy who said they make money off games. Sony doesn't make games. They do publish some but it isn't enough to overcome what they have lost in the first two years of making a Playstation 3.
Dude ... what a dumb thing to ask .
Of course not. Update yourself. PS3 has outsold the Xbox 360 by 2 million this year.
And exclusives are just getting better for the PS3, that is catching up VERY fast with the 360, both in terms of graphics as games.
??? where did u get those number? source? i thought 360 sold 3 to 1 ps3 on this black friday. source from kotaku.comDude ... what a dumb thing to ask .

Don't worry. I'm no fanboy. I have both consoles.
why would they sell a product that they know would lose money? they make a profit on each ps3 soldChocolateCake10well you're not entirely correct, they actually did lose money on each PS3 they sold because it was costing them more money to make it then they were selling it for. But im not sure about now since Blu-Ray drives are less expensive these days
Both Sony and Microsoft lose money for each console they sell. The money they hope to make comes off of software sales, not hardware. Nintendo is the only one, according to a recent report anyway, that actually makes a few bucks for each system sold.
On that note, neither Sony nor Microsoft will go bankrupt because of it. Sony still makes money off PS2 and PSP sales as well as lots of other forms of entertainment in electronics (TVs, sound systems, Blu Ray players) and movies. Then Microsoft who of course is the PC giant.
Worry not about anyone going bankrupt.
The point is that sony lost I think about 4 billion dollars in the first.... 2 or 3 years of making them....
They probaly won't go bankrupt but, I think they made a mistake installing blu-ray discs...
They cost them about 200-300 each....
Think about it... That almost more than half the price (of the complete PS3)....
There making money from games and stuff off of the Playstation Network store. And the stuff to make the PS3's prices are going down and so there either losing 0 $ or 25$ or something like that. And like someone else said they do ther stuffZacherWol19Yeah it's not gonna destroy them.... But they lost about 4billion in the first three years (I'm taking about only PS3-s not anything else)
no sony isn't going to go bankrupt. We are only in year 3 of the PS3 and God of War and GT 5 have not even come out yet. GT alone will sell millions in europe and probably half a mil in America and maybe a mil i japan. God of War 3 might make a million worldwide or more. These games have already been put into production and sony still has like 4 more years before it is known whether they made money or not on the system. They won't make as much money as in past generations, but they will turn a profit for sure. The reason Sega failed was because they spent too much money on hardware and never had support because it was always too expensive. The sega CD 32X nomad Master system Saturn and Dreamcast failed horribly worldwide for the most part. Even Game gear was not a huge success. So when you fail 6 times out of 7. How many times has sony failed? none. Even if they somewhat fail like GC did, they still can try again, the only reason they aren't doing so hot is because their launch screwed them plus the price. If they can make the PS4 with a relatively cheap price and actually work with developers to make it easer for them to put games on the system, then they can win out in the long run. The reason why MS has so many games and users is because it had an ok launch price, they were the first ones out which gave developers enough time to get comfortable with the system before the other ones came out, their hardware is cheaper for third parties.
Sony might have "superior" technology but it seems to expensive to put games on to a lot of developers. This is why N64 lost out. Luckily most games are multiplat so PS3 isn't really in the same situation.
this news if from a year ago. If sony hasn't managed to fix the production costs yet, then there is something going seriously wrong in Sony.
