There are plenty of media capable phones with much bigger screens, let alone the DSI-XL. paradigm68There aren't a lot of devices with bigger screens, at least not as high resolution as the PSP. An Archos might have a bigger 720p screen, but it's not exactly a gaming machine.
And the DSi XL? The resolution to size ratio is too low, and it's not directly media capable.
Get a PSP - NOW. ASAP. Games are so cheap they make Greatest Hits and Player's Choice look like rip-offs. SuperfastSonicYeah PSP is a good idea right now for those interested in cheap games.
PSP is basically finished in terms of major new releases. As the others said go ahead and buy one with a mountain of cheap games and enjoy it for a few years until the PSP2 hits its stride.Floppy_Jim
i wouldnt count it out quite yet. the latest god of war game just barely came out, and Ace Combat's newest release was only a few months ago too. I expect 2011 to have a few more great psp games released, but the BEST part will be the price drops on games that came out in 2010. I only purchase cheap psp games, so thats what i look forward to. now is a GREAT time to get a psp if you want some cheap quality gaming. and there are TONS of ps1 games on the psn too. and as stated before its a great multimedia device. It's a perfect size screen for watching TV shows, movies, and reading digital comics on the go.
oh and i forgot to mention phantasy star portable 2, thats a cool game you wont find anywhere else.
Well Front Mission 3 has just been released... Best done system ever!jordonj
It's a PSOne port, but testify son! Bought it last night!!!
:D
[QUOTE="MacSexy"]Even if the system is done, it still functions as a good media player, with a great screen for watching films and good compatibility with mp3s and wma files. There are plenty of media capable phones with much bigger screens, let alone the DSI-XL. But let's face it, bigger screens, memory, and games mean nothing if the interface is bad. (Insert point made about pixel aspect ratio.)From what I've seen, this is the biggest screen for a handheld, right? paradigm68
Phones are built to be phones, game systems are built to be game systems, computers are built to be the basis of Skynet...that's just how it works.
I barely play any games on my PSP it just spends a lot of time in my desk drawer good thing GOW Ghost of sparta came out ... Mostly use my iPhone now, it sad tho a phone getting regular game releases and good games too. And my PSP feels so HUGE in my pocket now... I dunno I think its days are over
iPhone getting good games? I disagree. Great for casual games, awful for real gamers, in my opinion.I barely play any games on my PSP it just spends a lot of time in my desk drawer good thing GOW Ghost of sparta came out ... Seeing how iPhone gets a lot of PC and DS ports yeah I would say it has some good games.Lara Croft - Guardian of light rescently was released and thats an award winning game , and a PSP port is nowhere to be found. And I was talking about GOW well iP has Hero of sparta , call that a casual game? It certainly isnt Bejewed thats for sure. Sure beats Sony's one stable game release a year policy. Face it guys the PSP i the platform with least new releases these days and believe me things are only gonna get worse. Granpire You could have atleast posted an opinion on the topic at hand , if you want to bash the iP there is a wonderful board by the name of "System wars"I barely play any games on my PSP it just spends a lot of time in my desk drawer good thing GOW Ghost of sparta came out ... The retail games have slown down but loads of psn games have been added and still are being added without any announcement lol. BTW check out NOVA (the iphone game) its sooo much better with real buttons and is really fun. It is a great time to buy a PSP now because there are tons of dirt cheap games, I'm enjoying my PSP now more than ever.
I know my PSP 1000is almost done. Every time I give the right side a little squeeze, the system shuts off. I can't put any pressure on it at all. Makes it almost impossibe to play games now. I'm not sure if it is just the battery or more. I really banking on a PSP 2 with backword capacity coming out soon otherwise I'm gonna have to invest in a new PSP.
I dont think the system is done, but it will definitely not be catching up to the DS. But the PSP has a large amount of quality games in my personal opinion
A few notable games are: Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, Dissidia, Disgaea 1,2, Persona 3 Portable(highly recommend), Final Fantasy: Crisis Core, and Star Ocean: Second Evolution
if its not done its about to be , cause nintendo 3ds is coming in 2 months, ,,
and if sony dont do psp 2 itll be one bad day
Modding has never diminished the life of a system for non-modders. Despite mods being out there, many users still stick with the official PSP interface. This changes nothing for most people, this merely gives the people who modify their systems something new to mess with...even then, an update will fix that by changing the key. So this will only be temporary...and the desired result is inconsequential to bring this up in a non-modding forum.Anyone heard the latest news?

In short, people will continue to play the system as it was meant to be played...by the way, isn't there a "Downgraders, Non PS1 emulation, ROMs, Custom Firmware and homebrew topic that's stickied at the top that specifically states:

True, however, just because a new way to mod has been found, it doesn't mean everyone who doesn't mod will suddenly flock to mod the daylights out of their systems. People will mod regardless of what comes out or doesn't come out. And they will continue to mod...but those who don't mod will continue to not mod.
That's the point I've been driving, not that modders are inconsequential...just that the discovery of a master key will not sway the good deal of fans who have stuck with the official software, and that this problem will be patched up if Sony really wants it to be so...just because something is buried under a lot of code, it doesn't mean it can't be altered.
When PSP owners discover the same thing(it could happen), it would make many more PSP owners take advantage of it.GranpireHowever, DS owners have had similar things like this happen in pirating games, and not everyone has taken the route to buy the components necessary to pirate (though I will admit, this is a very expensive thing in cases like the DS, with the cost of the product added to the shipping cost and if you get multiple items from multiple places, you pay shipping several times over). Even more money if you're trying to import on a system like the PS2...PSP doesn't fall into this, true...but there's a downside to this master key just on the horizon.
Personally, it's my belief that:
For the first few months people (who would have modded even without a master key if given the chance) are going to flock to it, because software will be released left and right...a vast majority of the rushed stuff not going through quality control, and many systems will be bricked as a result...gradually, the modders will get better, but there will be people will be pushed away from alternative methods of getting games as a result of this, because they'll either have to spend more money in buying a new system, or buying a method to unbrick it...last thing these thieves will want to do is spend money. Spending money on hacking tools, while being a status symbol in the hacker community, is money these guys want to use for other things.
Things will equal out...or Sony will discontinue the system manufacturing of the easily modded systems to stop some of the drain on the money. UMD based PSPs are the easiest in the group to hack because of the methods available to them (regardless of the master key issue, it's still a drain on Sony's income), so it will be no wonder when Sony finds the weakest link in them...add in a massive overhaul of an update, and equalibrium shall be reached once again.

I don't think it's something easily fixed. It's basically the keys to activate anything, literally. Any game, any homebrew, to make the PSP think it's legitimate, whether it is or not. What custom firmwares do is they allow the code to be run on the system. The master keys do the reverse, they would allow anything to be activated on a legitimate system, thus simplifying game downloads for anyone, without going through the trouble of modding the system. Thus, anyone could pirate games effortlessly. But I'm getting way to far into sensitive subject matter here, and the good news is, although the master keys have been discovered, they haven't been yet released, so there's not much to worry about. Yet. I think this discussion should be dropped. Sooner rather than later.Could be since the still unanounced but everyone knows it is coming (The PSP 2) will debut at the end of 2011. So the developers are currently working on launch titles for PSP 2. As for PSP it has about 6 months after the successor the its done. So this is a great time to build you PSP collection. PSP is more or less "all done"
In the past few year PSP has really added great games into its library. For me the year 2008 was like a turning point for PSP. Incredibly great games were published like MGS Peace Walker, Valkyria Chronicles 2, Persona 3 Portable, Dissidia and off course don't forget Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.
