is R* taking steps backwards ..???

i feel somewhat the same way, no customization, no tanks, a much smaller city, no parachutes, i just hope everything else is great to make up for thatpsyum

no its note the core, but how about taking away the cold pills from mgs series, the little box where u hide :P the pissin in his own pants from otacon , or emma:P, take away the little sackboy from littlebigplanet and throw in another main character, those are the little details that make a game great, taking away stuff like that wont affect gameplya but it will affect the overall sense of "reality" that r* is aiming for, yeah sure is an open world where u can do less than in previous games. i mean i have no doubt that the gameplay will rock, and may be the story, in fact you can take away the story from the gta series and nothing will happen, gta series are not known for their great story but their gameply is great, the "freedom" u have on the city is great, kill, hijack, all of that go here go there, but the small things are what makes a good game a great game...just my opinion

I know little details make a great game, but the way I see it, the lack of "x" or "y" is no reason to be dissapointed of a game that no one has even played.

We don't know how good/bad will it be, so making a topic on dissapointements it's just not right.

Well, if it makes you feel better, my original post wasn't adressed to you, but to the TC that stated GTAIV as a "big let down".

The lack of parachutes is definitely my biggest disappointment so far. I still think it's likely to be the best game of '08, though.Please_ThankYou

you also have to consider the character and storyline, from the looks of it..this looks to be the most serious character that R* has made for a main character in the GTA series. He definitely looks like hes not messing around in all the vids and images I've seen..as such, he looks like the type that could not give a flying sheet about adding hydraulics to a caddy. I would even wager that there will be way more kill missions in this one than the earlier games. Hopefully its still got some of that R* humor to it, but I doubt its gonna be as slapsticky as VC or SA.HardbodyHank

No parachutes?! I just lost all hope in this gmae... The parachutes were some of the most fun in San Andreas!

Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas really is the best game to play,there so much to do, i mean it had videogames to play inside of a videogame.

yup...no parachutes, no planes, no jetpacks, no different hair styles, no fast food places, smaller city, no tanks....no nuttin.....they also said the single player ranges from 100 hours....with all those things removed from the game who would even be able to finish the game without being dieing from boredom. outbreak201

Pretty much all that stuff is from SA, which I think was the worst of the three (GTA3, VC and SA) because of all the stupid little stuff that took away from the atmosphere of the game. If they are really taking a step backwards to VC, I will be more excited about this game. I think SA was a huge step back and just seemed like a copy-cat game with a few extras. So hopefully GTAIV will use the same mechanics as we know from GTA, but have a good story, which pretty much all of them have really lacked, and avoid the random gimmicks that add maybe 5min of fun, then never used again. Anyway, that's just my opinion. SA may have been good if it was the first of the GTA3 type games, but it wasn't, and was a major letdown for me, and why I have thus far been less than hyped about GTAIV.

well dont forget there will still be updates for the game since its on the next gen. consol now. so expect innovations over time.

Researching what all is being added, tweaked and refined yields obvious results - Rockstar is not taking steps back.

They are taking out things that don't fit with their new, more adult-themed approach to GTA. Obviously this would upset some fans, but I'm glad GTA is "growing up". Obviously some things have been taken out, but I trust Rockstar's judgement. If they took certain things out, then I'm sure it was for the best.

Rockstar has never let me down with a GTA game, and I don't expect that will change with GTAIV. It's easily my most anticipated game this year, and it would have been even if it was San Andreas/Vice City/GTA3 in HD.

Instead, Rockstar is retooling GTA for this generation, adding, subtracting, tweaking, and polishing as necessary, and I for one couldn't be more excited.

I think despite taking some minor things away its still going to be the best GTA yet! I mean I read the hands on from IGN and that had be laughting pretty much none stop. One part i did care to remember from such was being able to throw burger patty at pass by a sort of patty drive by now that sounds sick. trust read that from IGN an all will be forgivin. plus lack of certain things from the new game is to make it more realistic.
