I'm not a fan of the horror genre, but I really liked the RE5 demo. I liked Dead Space, but I couldn'nt enjoy it because of the scariness of it. It wasn't like I was crying int he fetal position in fear or anything, but it was just enough to sour the experience big time (ie dark corridor, AMBUSH, another dark corridor, AMBUSH etc etc etc). Is RE5 even as close as scary as DS? Does having a partner and the game being mostly in broad daylight take away from the scariness of the game?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you've read most of the reviews littered all over the internet (which I'm presuming you haven't), the horror thematic in RE5 is drastically reduced compared to past titles in the series. Dead Space blows it out of the water in terms of overall scariness. However, RE5 is NOT a bad game whatsoever. I bought it the second day it released and haven't regretted it.

im not that much of a horror game or movie kind of guy either i get scared pretty easily. i personally thought re5 was a little scary at parts but it played more like an action game than a horror game. but i loved the game i have no regrets buying it at all.

RE5 is much more of an action game than an horror game. In fact, I would pretty much ignore the horror aspect of it entirely. Yes, there are horror themes involved, but the game is oversaturated with action sequences and adrenaline-pumped explosive scenes that it really takes away from the fear of being ambushed, like in Dead Space. Dead Space is a remarkable horror game, but RE5 is a remarkable action game. Both are great titles to own, and RE5 is a definite keeper in my collection. I personally find it to be the best action shooter this generation.

Well in all fairness Dead Space was pretty much designed to keep the scares coming.

RE5 is not scary at all. If you played RE4 then anything that may have scared you has been purged from your system. Once RE went to the more action oriented gunplay of RE4, the scares droped a great bit, and while the tension remained, it wasn't quite the same tension and fear you felt in past titles. For me the tension is often "Gotta get Sheva healed before she dies and ruins the 0 deaths I had this stage. Gotta get more ammo for all the *mini spoiler!* lickers." Stuff like that. So basically it is a gorey, horror themed Action game, but without the BOO scares.

What i've played of RE5 wasn't scary at all, the co-op thing kills every possibility of horror in the game, looking at a virtual version of a friend being eaten might be even funny, but being eaten, cutted, annihilated in a darkened ship in outer space being alone, that's scary

No, RE5 isn't scary at all. I wish it was but most of the time your playing in day light. Deadspace on the other hand was awesome. I had a few jumps playing that game. I hope RE6 will have zombies and will take place in a dark enviroment.

The game isn't scary. RE4 had more scares. There are intense moments due to the fact you can't move and shoot.

The croc part was kind of scary tho, or when the chainsaw majini catches up to you.

The game is not scary. It is just action straight through, no real big scares. Well, maybe some BIG SCARES actually, ;)

Ooohhhh... Dead Space, huh? Excellent choice for scares and thrills. I bought it and it's by far one of my most best games so far.

Resident Evil had 1 scary part. The lab with that needle-monster (forget the name) and even that was just slightly unnerving. The series has definitely replaced horror with action, but that's ok. I love Resident Evil 5 so far.

NO, it's an action game. I played it mostly for the story, to see what happens.

I'm happy to see this happening. Finally!!! I was getting bored to see this postponed since many RE. At least I hope so. SPOILER

Uncharted was scarier, haha no joke. The scariest thing about RE5 were the couple stressful encounters it had, but that was stress level making it scary not the game being scary. I found though, once I finished those parts they stuck out as the best parts of the game. (The 2 chainsaw men at once is an example.)

I'm glad RE5 wasn't scary. If they made the game in dark areas all the time then it would have ruined the great design of the environments and destroyed the gameplay. Dead Space however is a perfect scary game that always keeps you on edge, and you don't know what to expect.

I found the 2 chainsaw zombies quite scary only because of the way you had to run away, especially as there was so many oil canisters in the factory that you lost sight of them. Uncharted was scarier, the bit near the end with all the mutant monsters in the dark corridors.
