Skate is a good game if you're looking for a title that captures a real skating experience. Skate isn't like the Tony Hawk series so you can't perform insane combos and massive big air moves. It may also take awhile to get used to Skate's control scheme since all the tricks are done via the right analog stick. But overall Skate is a good game if you're looking for a realistic skating game.
played the skate demo its a lot of fun, took me a bit of time to get used to the controls but I really liked it...that said i didn't buy it, waiting for the next group of skateboarding games to make that jump (hoping they flush out some minor frustrations with skate, like not being able to get off the board. I think both games have a demo up on the ps store give it a try.
