Is sony going to drop the PS3's price to $300?

I'd like to know if this is going to happen or not, because $400 is NOT the appropiate price to pay for a gimped PS3 with no backwards capability and less features etc. I keep hearing the rumors are on and off, but I'd just like to know if its going to happen and when?

I think it will. Just don't know when. But I think it will happen this year. Why? Because they want a successful holiday season and they know they can't rip anymore features out of the console. And they know that if they want to sell units they have to slash that loud @$$ price. I say yes, but I don't know when.

None of us know for sure , but I am think there will be one at E3

sony does tell us ps3 users all their plans about the console and stuff, infact they told us all about ff13 going multiplat way before e3. But buying a ps3 you are also sigining an embargo that prevents us from telling people sony's secrets so sorrywe can't tell you that at e3 sony is going to announce a pricedrop because we are sworn to an embargo.

uh yeah its not going to drop in price sony set out this year to be profitable this year. Thus they are eventually going to be seeling for a profit once the costs come down, like the wii which costs 50% less to make now than it did at launch...

Sorry but not in my book. If the $400 PS3 had backwards capabilities with PS1/PS2 games then I'd say maybe. But since that's not the case, $300 is much more suitable for me.

Sony has to wise up and think of the consumer in this economic environment. With a slow economy, people will simply choose not to buy a $400 "toy". If the real profits are from software and Blu-ray sales, then getting the "players" namely the PS3 itself into homes will start to help reaise profits and revenues in the long-term.

The fact that most of you people think that if sony drops the price they will make more money shows how dumb you are. Sony is struggling NOW, so selling PS3's and losing money on every console makes them rich in your heads??? they could sell a million consoles tomorrow for 200-300 bucks, but guess what they would make NO money of it. All they can hope for is a cap ton a HUGE PS3 exclusive games to sell, they don't have enough of those.I hope somehow they figure out a way to cut the price i really do, but i can't see them doing it unless they are so desprete to get into your living room.

i mean i would like games to be free, i think that would be more suitable, developers would want the ps3 to be free so they can just sell razor blades, more suitable!

It now doesn't have PS2 backward compatibility and doesn't have the SD card slots but it still have a lot more features than the *box. It have Blue Ray player, free online, controllers with rechargeable battery inside them, Wi-Fi, changeable hard drive, Web Browser, some games support 1080P,you can use usb drives as storage devices not like the *box which make you spent $55.00 for a memory card of 512 mb and can use any keyboard you like with it not like the *box.

For me is worth the money and more if you like games.

Seriously, $400 is not that much for a PS3 when you consider the competition. I recently got my PS3 and I always thought the 360 was so much cheaper, but it really isn't. The similar 360 model is $300, but it isn't nearly as good. Smallerhard-drive, have to pay $50 for a year of online, controller is worse, no blue ray. On top of that if you want wireless (which is a must for some of us) its an extra hundred buck. That makes the 360 have two annoying things sticking out of it, the power strip and the wireless adapter. How annoying. Not to mention the PS3 runs like a dream and the 360 is the worst console iv ever owned (sold it). Loud, makes weird noises, skips even when the disk is clean, etc. Plus the exclusives are better IMO. $400 is fair. You can't just expect Sony to drop the price b/c you can't afford one.

I hope they do so I can get one. It would be better if it was $300 because of the reduced features, but $400 is okay considering it has more features than the Xbox360. :)

I like the fact that you realize 400 is a decent price for all they give you. Sure everyone would love it to be cheaper but I think sony wants to make a base system. I mean it's not like the 360 arcade in which you need to buy a hard drive, live and wifi. The main thing that made people gravitate towards the 360 was online gaming with next gen graphics. In even the base ps3 you can do that. People originally were clamoring for the removal of bc for a cheaper price. We got that and still people complain. People whine about oh I only have one or two inputs for my tv. Then get like a 10 buck system selector.

Supposedly some gap members were asked how they felt about a 50 buck price drop with the inclusion of a game.

So there was a feature packed 60 GB model for $599 people were not satisfied. So Sony dropped it to $499 and people still were not satisfied. So Sony tried to make it cheaper by dropping BC and put the price at $399 and people are still not satisfied? Moral of the story: There will be people that complain no matter what.chathuranga

$400 is a fair price tag. If you can save up $300, then an extra hundred shouldn't be that much of a hurdle.The ps3 is the ps3, what is with all the whining and crying about not being able to play ps2 games on it.How about playing PS3 games on a PS3. They offered it to you in the beginning, you didn't pay then, so you lose out now. Not everything will be around forever. The ps3 has been out for 2 years and half, it has a library that is good enough without the PS2. In other words stop being a chep a**.

Well I worked up 2000 bucks the summer before the PS3's release and was completely fine paying 600 bucks for my launch one. I didn't really care what the price was because i knew i was getting one anyway.

i dont know...evev though im a proud ps3 owner...im hopeing they do though
