Is the GTA series going down hill?

Lets be honest even though it got great reviews it wasnt the best in the series so will they stick with realism or bring back the old gta style?

The will stick with the realism, but now that they know how it is to make a GTA game on a next-gen console, they'll either dedicate themselves to PS3 (if PS3 buy's the next expansion after the 360 episodes are finished) so that they can create a huge game with a lot of capabilities and stuff to do. In addition to a VERY large place. If it's not gonna become an exclusive to the PS3 at any time, that's a little negative for the PS3 i think.

But i really liked the game and i'm playing it again to get the trophies now and it's great. The reason it's not as impressive as you'd want it to be is because they had to put the same game on both a DVD and Bluray, so that it could play in both consoles. You wouldn't believe what Rockstar would've done if they'd be Sony's exclusive, just like in the old days (i'll hate Microsoft as hell if they'd buy the next games after the episodes as exclusives to).

i think the newest gta was closest thing since the old-school gta games. i thought vice city (except for its music) and san andreas were the worst in the series

GTAIV is one big dull fest.

GTA 4 was awesome yes it was lacking here and there but overall the story the gfx there was nothing wrong with it. They should of made it a little longer and added some of the features found in earlier parts of the series but GTA 4 was def good!

The fact that it wasn't the best in the series isn't a fact; it's a popular opinion supported by many people who did nothing but over-hype the game to no end.

It's an amazing game in it's own way and deserved each and every merit it was awarded.

It may not have all that cool stuff from San Andreas, but it's still a spectacular game.

It's by far my favorite in the series.

yea story was lame in gta 4 but the graphics and environment were excellent. the gameplay was a bit sluggish in parts but it was great fun. san andreas is still the best

hahaha yeah, saints row is just...mediocre...sub par...just plain bad.

GTAIV was a monumentous step forward from GTAIII and thus, I think it's a bit unfair to compare the content of GTAIII sequels to the GTAIV proper.
All that goodness and more will be available in GTAIV's own sequels, and I think any fan of the series doubting Rockstar's ability to deliver will be eating their own words when those sequels finally do arrive.

no it definately isnt. gta always comes up with some new form of originality for each new console game.

but rock star should do is like something thats like vice city where a lot of 80s kids or music listeners can be like " HEY! i remember that kind of thing!" the reason why vice city was the best was because it had nostalgia, and almost everyone connected with it.

I think they're taking themselves too seriously now.

The major appeal of GTA was it's manic sense of humor... the black comedy, the indiscriminate satire, the caricatured characters.Now they've got this B-grade direct-to-video crime drama thing going on. Yet-another-immigrant-story and blahblahblah, who cares? Rockstar needs to get over themselves and start doing what they do best again.

I agree with you, if the next GTA would be a PS3 exclusive (which is not likely), I belive R* would expand the world of GTA into somthing bigger than SA (which to me is the best GTA).

I didn't personally like GTA4 what so ever .. but that doesn't mean that the entire series is going downhill .. Rockstar will bounce back and give us everything we want in the game ..

Rockstar seems to be spreading it's attention abit more. GTA most likely won't be it's main series in the near future.

I'm talking about ambience, rather than hooking you in.

GTAIV really draws you into Liberty City; it's a breathing, living world on your TV screen.

San Andreas had a bunch of gimmicks that kept people playing; bodybuilding, parachuting, racing, mountain biking, marathon running, gambling, sex having, prostitute pimping, etc.

Now, that's not to say SA was bad, it's just that the city(ies) didn't feel as life-like as GTAIV did.

But they're both great games in their own rights.

Well Said. GTA 4 is a masterpiece of a game. It took a more mature path, a more realistic approach. Sure they could have added some more side quest and rampages and the online could have been more fun but the game, the stroy, and atmopshere are top notch.

Yeah GTA4 did have a living breathing city.......to bad most of the shops or buildings in GTA4 you could not go into.There is only so many times I can sit there and say WOW this game has a bunch of people walking up and down the streets.I respect your opinion on liking GTA4 and the multiplayer is fun if you have some good people to play with but I was let down by this game.K1LLR3175

Yeah, a lot of people were, unfortunately.

If you ever get around to it, you should definitely check out Saint's Row 2. It's got some minor glitches, but nothing horrible that ruins the experience.

Not yet. It's only GTA4 that is not good. If GTA5 won't improve, then the answer to your question is YES.

I enjoyed all GTAs since GTA3 (including LCS and VCS) except GTA4.

Many people that played the first 3 are probably sick of the series that is all. It's redundant. Wow!! a graphics update... The story was boring and the satire was not done as well as the earlier ones. Plus I liked the cartoon look of gta3.dmc333

GTA4 felt like doing the same mission over and over again. kill this guy kill that guy...

To all of you, i'm definitely sure, that the next GTA, will blow you're minds out. I really think PS3 will have it as exclusive, it has been one of their biggest series till now that 360 both got the fourth generation of the series, and additionally they have the extra episodes.

If GTA would've been a PS3 exclusive, it would've, as i said before, be much bigger, much better, much more things to do and much more fun.
