I just went to Gamecrazy the other day looking to buy some old Resident Evil PS1 games... and the guy pulled out a box of PS1 games in sleaves and said have a look... I'll sell you any 10 games in this box for $5... so I grabbed the old Resident Evil games and a few Twisted Metal games... then I saw MGS 1... I had Metal Gear Solid 3 on PS2... I never really got into it because I didn't understand what was going on... I was just wondering if it is worth it to play through the first, buy the second and play through it, and then buy the third again and beat it... I am guessing they are long games because the first one is on 2 disks and the 3rd one I played for like 3 weeks and never understood anything happening...

hell yeah it is worth beating and playing over and over because you can change the difficulty and the storyline in the first, second, and third have great storylines. The first and second i thought were better than the third one because the third one made me think of splinter cell a lot. I just got bored with that one and just kept beating the first and second ones over cause it's fun.

Yes it's worth it. Don't let the crappy graphics fool you, they were crappy in the standards of the time it was released in too! Yet it's the best game ever created in the history of videogames.

I remember the day when i walked into "nobody beats the wiz" store back in the days. I saw the PSone display case with Metal Gear Solid demo and i jumped on that like a monkey on a cupcake. Damnnnn that was one fine looking game and up until this day...wow...what a game. I would buy it ...

Crappy graphics? They were the best graphics out at the time for both 1 and 2. All of the Metal Gear Solid games still look fantastic to this day. Metal Gear Solid 2 was by far the best looking game available when it was released, so I don't know where you're coming from.

They are some of the best games ever created though, and you can't miss any of them.

If you happen to have a gamecube get MGS: Twin Snakes, its a remake of the first and so much better plus it includes the weapons and movelist from MGS2.

No it's not better. That wasn't directed by kojima. MGS1 on PS1 was directed by Kojima himself hence it's better... it was depicted just as how he wanted.

I have to agree with gamingqueen, the twin snakes was not better then original PS1 that was directed by Kojima himself.

I definitely suggest you go ahead with MGS1 especially with such a low price, it's a shame not to buy it and enjoy probably the best Metal Gear story out of three series. Although, I have to admit I slightly liked MGS3 more, but that was newer age. :)

I've got the MGS Essential Collection on preorder from Amazon. I only played MGS 1&2 for a combined 20 minutes. I tried them after being on a HUGE Splinter Cell kick. MGS wasn't enough like SC for me, so I hated them.

I have decided to give them a second chance in hopes of getting pumped for MGS4.

Actually Kojima had alot of involvement with Twin Snakes, it was under his guidance to make sure it went right. It even says on the game case "produced by Kojima". And it is said the cutscenes were originally done like that of the original Metal Gear Solid but Kojima wanted them like the way you see them now so he had the director remake them. Just badass and over the top. I say its defiently a leap from the original in terms of gameplay mechanics and graphics and cutscenes.

You must not know much about that game. Twin Snakes was Produced by Kojima meaning he paid for part of the development cost as did Konami and Nintendo. Silicon Knights developed the gameplay and a company called Versus which does choreography for CGI did the cutscenes. Versus makes every project they do exactly like that, if you ever played Devil May Cry 3 they did the cutscene choreography in that too Dante even steps on a rocket in mid-flight in that as well just like Snake did in TS.

So to break it down

Hideo Kojima/Konami/Nintendo all paid for the game to be developed.

Silicon Knights developed the game, and in a nicenod to Eternal Darkness put a bunch of ED easter eggs as well as Nintendo ones too.

Versus made the cutscenes.

Hideo Kojima had nothing to do with the over the top cutscenes because a third party handled it that makes everything that over the top. What I would like to know is whose job it was to decide to redo the dialouge because the Twin Snakes edits to the dialouge were terrible and the acting jobs done by alot of the characters were flatter and lacked enthusiasm compared to the original.

well, twin snakes wasn't exactly Kojima's game 100%, but if you are one of those people who will complain about graphics, then that's the only situation in which i recommend getting it. otherwise, stick to the original, it just has this vibe about it. ask anyone else who played the original, it's one hell of an experience.

But it was actually by Kojimas request that Kitamaru redo all the cutscenes to his style. Not all the dialouge had changed, i mean Noami and the Chinese bird had different accents, but the voicing was all good. Pretty much all the original cast made a return except Grey Fox. I own both the original and twin snakes but i always go back to twin snakes though. I know that feeling of epicness back in 99 when i played it, but its just not there no more.

I only get that nostalgia from Resident Evil 2 and 3.

I didnt know it was the same people who did the DMC3 chereography, but if so..then it explains why MGS twin snakes cinema is top notch. MGS1 original just feels limited in terms of gameplay mechanics compared to the updates and on par with MGS2.

Might aswell get them both and judge for yourself for the guy if he owns both consoles.

I didn't play twin snakes, but I've seen some cutscene comparisson on youtube, twin snake's voice over ia pretty bad compared to original. I'm not saying it's terrible, but it's not as distinct and unique as the original.

also I'm not sure about snake's over the top moves. that kind of over the top moves fit Dante's character, but it didn't fit Solid Snake's character at all.

MGS is way diff. then SC. MGS is all about the story and cinematics and well it is the Origin of all stealth games.

Definately worth playing. The original MGS is always worth beating. I had to have played that game like 10 times all the way through if not more.
