I was thinking about the PS3 and then it dawned on me that game developers are having to create a game to fit every system almost which means that there has tp be one game for each system. To me the development hurts the system cause its Last gen and developers may feel a need to capture the audience of that system.. To make a long story short I believe it limits games giving their full power to this generation. Anyone have any thoughts?

They probably have separate devs working on the ps2/ps3 versions so i dont think it really affects anything at all.

Only thing that's hurting PS3 is Sony.

They've been making quite horrible decisions past few years.

In that thoery the games that are affected are the ones developed by third parties and are multiplats. Even so I think developers do have seperate divisions for each console. Take EA for example the next gen Madden vs old gen Madden are basically different games and even then Madden All Play is just for the Wii.

The only thing that the PS2 is doing to hurt the PS3 imo is giving Sony less of an excuse to put proper software PS2 emulation into every PS3, since they're /still/ selling the PS2 itself.

But then again there is hardly any need to play ps2 games anymore...Its been what like....2 years? Or more since the ps3 launch...time to get a ps3 if you dont have one yet. How will you ever improve the future if you cant let go of the past?

Isn't it ironic?

If Sony didn't toss the idea of PS2 backwards compatibility, then strong PS2 line up would've been PS3's strength since PS2 games would be part of PS3 library.

and guess what? Among the games I bought in 2009, the one I play the most are PS2 games. Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle, and Ar tonelico 2

How can you improve the future if you just ignore the past? ;/

Backwards compatibility makes the purchase less of a risk for someone, or opens up new games for them that they've yet to play (disregarding the fact pretty much *every* gamer owns a PS2...), generating more revenue for publishers who still actually develop for the damn old platform.

Besides, it's another feature to tote on the PS3 case that the 360 has the edge on currently. I'm pretty sure Halo fanboys would have been pissed if Microsoft didn't allow their users to play Halo 1/2 on their 360s. I'm just glad I got the last line of B/C PS3s, as I have purchased a couple PS2 titles recently. (God of War 2 & Final Fantasy X)

Well i wasnt say ignore the past, i was saying that you have to let go of it eventually. Maybe not right now, but definitely later. When i first had a ps2, i played my ps1 games, but at the end of the ps2's cycle, i wasnt playing any of my ps1 games anymore, let alone do i even know where they're at. Im just saying that eventually there is not really going to be a need to play outdated ps2 games; most likely towards the end of the ps3's cycle. Backwards compatibility is really only essential in the beginning years of a consoles life when people are still not wanting to let go of their old games.

But then again here Sony is putting PS1 classics on the PSN, so just screw everything i said. lol.

Why isn't there a need to play those games anymore??? PS2 is still a great console, it still has great games. I still play really old games.
If they let go of the past then there wouldn't be many great games on the PS3 if they forgot about all the great games for the PS2.
Like killzone, god of war, gran turismo, metal gear solid, and lots of other great games.
