The only thing that the PS2 is doing to hurt the PS3 imo is giving Sony less of an excuse to put proper software PS2 emulation into every PS3, since they're /still/ selling the PS2 itself.

But then again there is hardly any need to play ps2 games anymore...Its been what like....2 years? Or more since the ps3 launch...time to get a ps3 if you dont have one yet. How will you ever improve the future if you cant let go of the past? How can you improve the future if you just ignore the past? ;/
Backwards compatibility makes the purchase less of a risk for someone, or opens up new games for them that they've yet to play (disregarding the fact pretty much *every* gamer owns a PS2...), generating more revenue for publishers who still actually develop for the damn old platform.
Besides, it's another feature to tote on the PS3 case that the 360 has the edge on currently. I'm pretty sure Halo fanboys would have been pissed if Microsoft didn't allow their users to play Halo 1/2 on their 360s. I'm just glad I got the last line of B/C PS3s, as I have purchased a couple PS2 titles recently. (God of War 2 & Final Fantasy X)
Well i wasnt say ignore the past, i was saying that you have to let go of it eventually. Maybe not right now, but definitely later. When i first had a ps2, i played my ps1 games, but at the end of the ps2's cycle, i wasnt playing any of my ps1 games anymore, let alone do i even know where they're at. Im just saying that eventually there is not really going to be a need to play outdated ps2 games; most likely towards the end of the ps3's cycle. Backwards compatibility is really only essential in the beginning years of a consoles life when people are still not wanting to let go of their old games. But then again here Sony is putting PS1 classics on the PSN, so just screw everything i said. lol.
