Last month i received my PS3 from sony but now i'm not too sure if my PS3 fan is suppose to sound a little bit when there's no sound coming from the tv or when the area around it is very quite. When it's turning on you can heard the fan loud for a couple of seconds then the system becomes quite like if there's no fan in the system but after staring playing if you pause a game or if the area is very quite you can heard the fan it's only a little bit of sound. Is the PS3 supposed to be silent like the W_ _ or is this normal?

Its normal. My ps3 is the same way. When I first bought it, I didn't know I turned it on and thought that it was a defective one:P

...Turns out that it was on the entire time...i just didn't hear the fan

It'll eventually get louder.

Mine was pretty quiet like it's really hard to hear, the TV makes more noise than it.

Well I've had mine for over 2 years and I guess because it's getting older. I also run it for six hours sometimes a day too watching shows off the Internet, probably the main reason it's loud.

I've heard hulu blocked the compatability with PS3.

My PS3 stays quiet for atleast an hour, it starts humming for a bit and then the fan kicks in and it can get quite loud after about 3 hours or so

(I try to keep my PS3 as dust free as possible and do my best to take care of it. I keep a microfibre sheet over my baby when it's not in use, and keep it's shelf dust free). I try to give it atleast 30 mins rest or so when it gets noisy. I may as well point out that I only use my PS3 for gaming and the occasional Blu-ray movie.

Since your PS3 is too quiet, and I'm assuming it's working to a usual standard, My guess would be that Sony cleaned your fan so it is as new. When I first got my PS3 (40gig) it was completely silent after the start-up, and wouldn't make a noise for several hours.

Why?

ever had a ceiling fan, notice how much dust builds along the edges after soo many months. Well the same thing eventually happens with any fan and it affects how well it moves air.

sageJMP is right , and it wont be loud if its well ventilated and u clean it once a month or use a vacuum on the vents and suck the dust out. usually if ur in a cool room ur ps3 stays cool. i have a A.C in my room and my ps3 is so well ventilated thats i swear only time i hear it get abit louder is when i play for 8 or more hrs straight non stop. and not loud enough like a jet engine and its not like i notice it either cuz well.....im too busy listening to the game lol and wats going on. unless i have absolutely no sound in my room and i go near my ps3 yes then i notice it but other then that no. just clean it once every other week or so and make sure its well ventilated and ull be fine, it will purrrrr like a cat lol

If it's too darn quiet there and the only thing operating is your TV (presumably muted) and your PS3... having a bit of fan sound is normaL... people don't usually noticed it with the sound system's or the TV's volume is way high and they're focused with the game...

Mine is completely quiet unless it's loading, the only time it gets loud is when the fan turns on cuz it's so flippin hot and dusty in my room. But that's it, shouldn't be anything to worry about.
