Hey,

I know that the failure rate of the 360 is through the roof, and the failure rate of the PS3 is very low. The reason I am switching from 360 to PS3 is because I have had bad luck with the 360. Basically, is the PS3 reliable enough for me to justify this transistion?

-Thanks

it's more reliable than...The console who's name shall not be spoken in the PS3 boards, I'll tell you that.

But, you shouldn't base your entire decission in just that. What about games PS3 has that you want? Or you are just to pissed at MS because IT failed...again.

I wouldn't go out of my way to get rid of a 360 for a PS3 for that reason singularly.

Have you googled the relibility of the 360? It is eye-opening what Microsoft considered a passing relibility rate.

Anyway, as long as the games you are interested in are in fact on the PS3 then you should have a more stable system than an earlier generation 360.

That's the defining reason for one console versus another: What GAMES do you want to play? If you like Mario, then neither fo these systems will do you a lot of good will they? Personally, I LOVED Fable and played it to death on the PC. I am VERY tempted to buy that OTHER console for Fable 2 alone. Do you feel that way about any PS3 game?

Basically anything that ND puts out. Even if it's complete crap.

Isn't Fable 2 coming to PC?

The implication is, NO. But, in reality, of course it is. Oh well. Another PC upgrade is in my future anyway.

very well said. the ps3 is very strong, just make sure you dust it off once in a while and that you don't drop it, spill water on it, explode it, put bologna in it, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have a working Xbox 360 right now. I voided the warranty by "trying" to fix it myself, haha. Anyway, I also sold all but one of my 360 games for cash after it broke. I bought a used Wii, sold it for a profit, and now it was between PS3 and 360. The PS3 games are VERY appealing to me. I don't know if I have ever had as much interest in a game by previews as I do with Resistance 1, and 2. Also, the ONLY reason I would buy another 360 is that almost all of my friends have them, and none of my friends have PS3s. Halo also is another reason, haha. But I want and will get a PS3 as planned as far as I know.

-Thanks

I use mine to fix up popcorn and toast waffles. Is that okay? I make sure to never butter the waffles first, if that makes a difference.

I would say the 360's unreliableness is a bad reason to make a complete switch. The ps3 is very solid, it is rare to break, granted my blueray drive crapped out, sounds like it only happened to me. The newer 360's are seemingly better, have a low failure rate.

IMHO yes. the 360 is just a horribly built system. just to much packed into to small a case with poor hardwear lay out. the ps3 can go badthough. when i first bought mine i had to return it twice. first one the controlers motion tech was busted and the secound system had a fan problem. but gen speaking the ps3 is a much more reliable system from every thing iv seen, heard and read. Now if you have a 360 thats never failed on you yet then stick with it. but ifyour like alot of people who are on the 3rd+ 360 then yea ditch that zero and get your self a hero.

A big issue with the 360 was this: The designers kept putting in stuff even after feature lock, such as the wireless controler technology.

statistically, YES, the PS3 is more reliable. don't switch though... that's silly. keep your 360, and buy a PS3. and if your 360 breaks down you'll play on your PS3, without being interupted by the time it take to repair the 360. Of course that could work the other way around, but statistically speaking, it will be the first scenario more often than not

Is not bad luck, is 360s nature, one of my friends has had 3 because 2 of them failed, the 3rd being his current 360 and its scratching his discs, but he loves 360 anyway. With the latest 360 update, even more 360s are starting to fail, i don't know exactly the reason why but it's been said so, and is such a bad thing since most of ppl guaranty has run out since 360s launch.

As for PS3, some ppl around these forums had been complaining about their PS3 having failures too, i have the 40GB version and its doing very well even though most of the time its on

Well, I've had worse luck with the PlayStation3 than I've had so far with even the prior-gen PlayStations or the Xbox 360. I'm currently on my fourth PlayStation3 (this time, a replacement unit from Sony) that thankfully is working well now. Runs hot as a **** but I'm just going to have to accept that as it is a full-BC 60 gig model. There've been few games on the ps3 so far that I've wanted - one of the big ones being MGS4... but one of the big reasons I'm keeping this model is for the fact that it has proper, hardware BC for PS2 and PS1; having gone through Sony's compatiblity page online, the softBC models actually are broken on a lot of games that I would want to still play, that have already been effectively fixed for those with hardware BC (and this includes PS1 titles, too). And there was no way I was going to have a PlayStation that couldn't play my rather extensive library of games. Doesn't help that I've yet to find a ps1 (or ps2) emulator to run on my computer that won't start **** up within a day's worth of playing.

it's more reliable than...The console who's name shall not be spoken in the PS3 boards, I'll tell you that.

But, you shouldn't base your entire decission in just that. What about games PS3 has that you want? Or you are just to pissed at MS because IT failed...again.

i was like that too I really wanted Fable 2 also, but I played it and I was dissapointed by it to tell the truth... but hey maybe you will like it... I still love the first Fable though

yea thats pretty much what i was saying. the actual parts im sure are fine and the system specs are great its the lay out that was bad. also iirc the cpu or gpu was positioned right under the dvd drive wich of course if that is the case would be a very bad choice.

Aw god, i can't even begin to tell u how much lost potential is in fable 2. I don't mean it in the good way either. Story wise, fable 1 is definately better by far. However, if free roaming is what u like fable 2 is the game for you. There are some fun elements in the gameplay, like having subtargetting with a gun later on so u can instant hs, but other than that, fable 1 seems to have the upperhand. It seems like they really rushed the product out, because an rpg just isn't an rpg without a good story line. I'd give it an 8.5 like GS, but i wouldn't be surprised if it got lower on other sites. SPOLIER*** If you've played hellgate london, the end is sorta the same where the person who helps u out throughout the entire story turns out to be the villian or might be the villian and they leave u with a sorta cliff hanger where they just hush u away.

my ps3 is plenty reliable, except the blu-ray drive died on me recently. but it doesn't mean the total death of your system since you can send it back to them and they'll fix it up for you. well, as long as you have your receipt....i didn't keep mine so i have to pay for the repairs...

Yes, the PS3 is far more reliable. In fact, this is the reason I bought a PS3. I became when my 360 (which I took perfect care of) got the RROD and quit working. I'd been lusting MGS4 for quite some time, so the 360 failure was just enough to push me into buying a PS3 I sent off my 360 and Microsoft replaced it with a completely new one. Within days, the new 360 was already giving me disc read errors. At that point, I knew the PS3 was a wise decision. I sold off my 360 and now the PS3 is my console of choice (I also don't miss paying $50 a year to pay online). As for the games, both consoles pretty much have the same games. There aren't very many exclusives this generation.

Unless you're a Halo or GeOW junkie, an atrocious failure rate is more than enough reason to consider(and even go through with) replacing that system with a PS3.

Here is a little story on a ps3 return I made at BestBuy the other week that really turned me off to the extended warranty. I purchased the first generation Xbox 360 and waited 24 hours in the rain and snow to get one (I will never do that again) and decided not to get the extended warranty; BIG MISTAKE!

I had to pay $150.00 to get it fixed and waited 5 weeks to get it back. I am now on my 4th 360 and the current one I have (refurbished) didn't work the minute I plugged it in. The display lights that show what controller is plugged in do not work; at least I won't see the 3 rings of death now. Lol

I decided to purchase the ps3 as a blu-ray player and as a backup so I can still play while the 360 is in the shop. This time I did get the extended warranty to play it safe even though the ps3 has a better track record than the 360. I had the ps3 about 8 months when the blu-ray stop reading any type of media. I wasn't worried about it because I had the warranty so I packed up everything that came with the original system minus the s-video cable which I never used and figured I could replace it with the new one in the new ps3 box...WRONG!!!!!!! The BestBuy person took it to the Geek Squad to test the ps3 I brought in and when I told him I didn't have the s-video cable they informed me that I could not return it. I asked them to use the one from the new one and they told me that in order to return the bad ps3 I would have to have ALL THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT that came with it. I was confused and asked that I could just go over to the counter and purchase a new cable and they said NO. Man was I pissed! Then I asked the BestBuy employee, what would stop me or anyone else from purchasing another cable from another store and claim that they found the cable at home. They told me that it still had to be the original cable and that if I did use the replacement cable Sony would fine them for allowing this. They said that Sony will actually check the cable number to verify and when it doesn't match they will fine BestBuy; talk about not making the customer happy.

I decided to purchase a cable and return the system to another BestBuy but when I returned home I actually found the s-video cable still in the plastic so I decided to take it back to the same store to see how they treated me but all the employees involved had gone for the day so I was helped by the assistant manager who I failed to tell him of my previous experience just to see how this went. The assistant manager asked me for the warranty info and what was wrong with the system; I gave it to him and he put it in the system and gave me a gift card to purchase the new system. HE DIDN'T EVEN OPEN THE BOX!

Has anyone else had bad return experiences with BestBuy?

The PS3 is gaming console, look if you like it's exclusive games, such as MGS4, Resistance, LittleBigPlanet and such instead of asking reliability issues. But yeah, Xbox break all the time. I can give you a personal example of this, 9 of my firends have xboxs, They had theirs break on them at least once, (One of em is in his 4th) and only 3 of us on PS3s, including me, and never had an issue.

Anyhow my point is, If you like 360's games, buy a 360, If you like PS3's games, then buy a PS3, simple.

Hey,

I know that the failure rate of the 360 is through the roof, and the failure rate of the PS3 is very low. The reason I am switching from 360 to PS3 is because I have had bad luck with the 360. Basically, is the PS3 reliable enough for me to justify this transistion?

-Thanks

Ok ok .. it is a very reliable system .. I have had mine since launch with no problems ..

But just because it's reliable, doesn't mean it can't, or won't break .. so don't think it will never break down on you ..
