Is the PS3 worth it (for now)?

     Now before you think about bashing or putting heat on me, just wait; my intention is not to bash the PS3, but ask, why?  Why should I get a PS3 now?  Is it worth it at this point and time?  To me, the PS3 seems like a true "nex-gen" console, but at the same time I wonder if it's worth it in the end. 

     You see, I own an xbox 360, and I must say I enjoy the games, online, controller, and etc.  But I want something more and different, because I've never owned a Sony console before.  I've played the Ps1 and 2 numerous times, but I've never gone as far to buying one.  Basically, my question is do you think it's worth it?  Don't say I should just because your a PS3 "fanboy," but be honest and tell the truth if you think the PS3 is worth the big dollar.

     Also, I know this is my decision and I should like what I want to like, but sometimes you need to hear peoples opinions.

Yes this seems to be the reason why most bought the PS3 (for Blue Ray).

It all depends on your money situation. If $600 bucks is going to put you in the poorhouse, don't buy it. If you can afford it, buy it. Personally I'm sick of these "I have a 360, convince me to get a PS3" threads, they're just cleverly disguised trolling.

Actually, I would say that most people (including myself) bought it for the games available and those to come.

The PS3 is absolutely worth it, I was gonna wait with getting a PS3, because I also already had a 360. But my 360 just kept giving me problems, so I ordered the PS3, and it's amazing, the PS3 has got everything, great games(with no detectable bugs or glitchess, I haven't played all the games, but still), online seems to be at pretty much the same quality as Xbox-live, the 360 controller is nearly a copy of sony's PS controller + the sixaxis is a great feature, you get a web-browser, and region free games which is awesome(cause asian games rock).

Look, you can play games online, you can voice chat, you got the friendslists, you get updates and patches online, you even got the online store, all things both platforms support.

Well currently the PS3 arsenal of games doesn't seem to make it worth the money. Unless you want it for Blu-ray, I would strongly recommend to hold off till games like Devil may Cry 4 or Resident Evil 5 come out before making the buy. That way you'll probably be able to get the game you want in your packaged deal. I don't know about where you come from but I come from Singapore and they are selling the PS3 in a set with a free game of your choice. So I rather wait till the game I want is released and then get it for free together with my PS3 than get the PS3 now and choose a game that I may not like. Well this is just my own point of view.

Hehe, well your in a PS3 forum so I'm pretty sure your gonna get a lot of Yes's.   So I'll add to them, yes its worth it.  There are a handful of really good games out right now (Resistance, Oblivion, Motorstorm, Virtua Fighter and the EA/2K sports games).  Also, in my opinion, the PS3 has the most exclusive/nonexclusive games coming out this year that I wanna buy:  Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Warhawk, Killzone, Ratchet and Clank, GTA 4, Assassins Creed, Brothers in Arms, Metal Gear 4, Final Fantasy 13 games, God of War 3, new Wipeout game, White Knight Story, Devil May Cry 4.   Not to mention Home and Little Big Planet.  I wont have enough money for all these games this year!   Also, you have free online multiplayer, free demos, downloadable games and video, and you can watch Blu Ray movies.   Yes, Blu Ray IS part of the reason why wanted a PS3.   I have an HDtv and I actually want to get as much out of it as I can, movies and games... call me crazy.

I have a 360, and I still use Xboxlive, I just don't feel it's that special, I feel it delivers about the same quality of access and support as PS3 online.

PS3 is worth exactly NOTHING right now.

PS3 will suddenly be worth A LOT at the EXACT same day that Metal Gear Solid 4 is released.

Simple as that :)

why you need to ask why ?

why you need people to convince you into buying something ?

you already know what PS3 can do, right ?

relax, it's just a game console, it's not a real estate purchasing

when you feel you have the urge to check PS3 news everyday, and watch the images and videos of its games every time you enter a game site

then you own yourself a purchase of a PS3

that is it :)
