I personally think it's worth the upgrade. I had a 2000, and I still like the 3000 more. The scanlines are noticeable, yes, but the new contrast ratio is gorgeous. The lines bug me, but so did the ghosting. There's ALWAYS something wrong with screens. If it's not one thing, it's something else. People need to stop complaining and just realize it's a preference.
More color and brightness (yes it IS brighter...), with scanlines, or less, with ghosting.
The other thing I love about the 3000 (some would call it making it 'cheap') but damn I love the matte finish. NO MORE FINGERPRINTS.
SHORT VERSION: It's not a big deal, and it's worth the upgrade IMHO.
why would u spend another $200+ on a psp for just a brighterscreen?olpfan
I spent about $100 out of pocket, and I love my 3000.
you didn't see a point in keeping your 2000?
clearly you don't understand what you had then.

Ummm, as stated above, I love my 3000 and I'm GLAD I traded. It's a matter of preference. If I WANTED my 2000, I would just get another one, selling my 3000. But that's not going to happen.
np, your choice.olpfan
Like I said, it's a preference. To me, not a big deal. To others, it's a huge deal (obviously).
Example, I have 3 coworkers with 2000s. One of them hates the new screen, the other 2 are looking to upgrade. It's all a matter of preference. Maybe OP won't care, maybe they will.
mine is psp 3000 and I love it. scanline doesn't bother me one bit and it doesn't affect gameplay or anything . psp 3000 is better because the color is more vivid. If ur tight on budget go with 2000 its still great, the only different between the two, the 3000 has better color gamut, a mic, shape on the side is smoother, smaller ring on the back, usb auto detection, etc.

to rain on your parade a little bit... i have a 2000 and i have usb auto connect. it was a feature added with 5.00 or something
It's too bad you can't really buy new 2000s anymore. I'd rather not have the scanlines. I wouldn't have any problem with sticking with the 1000 I have now but I think this "ghosting" hurts my eyes.
I've heard that scanlines aren't on ALL 3000 models though.

I agree.i have the PSP 1000 and the PSP 3000.The screen is a lot better on the 3000,no ghosting and better colors.I have the PAL version PSP 3000(3004) and i have not scanlines on the PSP 3000.
They all are the same. All of them have the same "issue," despite whether or not the user notices it. It really is not a big deal. People blow it out of proportion and the only ones I've seen complain are those who don't have a 3000 (users of older models develop an irrational attachment to their version because they can't rationalize upgrading. Those that choose to buy an older model based on the scanline issue are simply mis/uninformed).So the latest model of the PSP (3004+) won't likely have a scanline problem?

I've said similar things in about 10 different threads. I wish people would use the search engine instead of making these threads over and over again. This is all old news and old debate.
NO WONDER, THIS IS A FREAKING OLD THREAD. Don't bump these and make me waste my time, please!
I can notice them a little but enough to ruin gameplay and if you saw pics online that showd it horrible are fake.

The last number represents region code.
Oh, I made a false assumption. :S
Yeah they are barely noticble. Can anyone help me Im on vacation right now and i picked up a psp 3000 from the Uk and I live in canada. My Question is can the psp play NTSC (region code for the US/Canada) umd games,ps1 classics from the US/Canadian psn store, psn games, etc... Also when i go back home will i be able to play a NTSC games online while im in canada? And will my Canadian Ps3 be compatible with my Uk psp (remote play,etc..) Also can a US/Canadian firmware update a UK PSP??I can notice them a little but enough to ruin gameplay and if you saw pics online that showd it horrible are fake.

I have a good old PSP Phat, and I've never had any screen problems other than one tiny dead pixel...but its barely noticeable.

I believe the answer is "yes" to your other questions as well, but I can't say I'm absolutely 100% sure.
I bought my 3000 at launch, upgraded from 1000 and I barely notice them. I'm sick of these threads poping up every day too...
I was thinking about getting a PSP 3000, but I just read on PSPFanboy about Scan Lines appearing on the new screens. For all you 3000 owners, is it really that big of a deal? Or is the 2000 model better?ta11on
hey if are about to buy a 3000 then how much is it????

FOR HOW MUCH!!PLEASE TELL ME
google it. God.I'm thinking about getting a 3000 but I don't know who to believe. Some of the pictures of the scanlines look pretty bad but then some blind fanboy tells me its hardly noticeable. So I don't know if people are making the pictures worse of purpose or are people lying to get me to buy it.
so could some one one here post a pic of their psp 3000 (turned on of course) because I don't trust the scanline pictures that some articles are showing.
Oh yeah, all us 3000 owners are lying bastards who want others to buy a defective product we keep using for some reason or other.I'm thinking about getting a 3000 but I don't know who to believe. A picture isn't going to tell you anything, since it is a single frame. I mean, if you're playing a game at 60 FPS, one frame every second could look like garbage and all the rest fine, and you would think the game looks like garbage from that one image, while in reality the eye can't even see that frame when playing. That's just an example and doesn't have much to do with the "scanlines," but I hope you see my point.
Ah.. the screen problem. Actually I didn't notice any scanline in my PSP-3000. So, that solves my problem about what all of you guys were wussing here... And to give people more perspective, the next PSP version (PSPgo/PSP Go a.k.a PSP-N1000) will use the same screen technology/specs as in PSP-3000. The only different is that PSP-N1000 has a smaller screen. (Source: wikipedia.org) So, for all of you guys who thod PSP-2000 and PSP-1000 has a better screen than PSP-3000. Think again!
I honestly have no idea what screen lines you guys are talking about I don't think I've really seen any except when I am hooked up to my tv and even then it's very infrequent it's not too much of a problem. Only thing I have against the 3000 from my release day phat is the speakers being worse, when I traded in my phat for the 3000 the guy at the counter commented on how loud it was when he ran the 'does it run' test on it.
The increaced color range on the psp 3000 makes it even better looking compared to the 2000. I traded in my 2000 and bought 3000after comparing it to my cousin's 3000. it looks sexay!
My flatmate picked up a 3000 yesterday and when I compared my 1000 alongside her 3000 I instantly saw the scanlines. That was just in the XMB itself. Yes the screen is brighter but that just means the lines are more obvious. Does it make it unplayable? Of course not.. The 3000 is really nice but I do think the lines are really easy to spot.
