i think its a high tech piece of machinery, and you gotta take care of it. its definately not as sturdy as a gameboy, but it has such greater capabilities. u gotta be carefull with a psp, they are fragile.
but no, not a ticking timebomb. But i would definately NEVER buy a used psp, they need to be bought new and treated like a baby if you want it to last.

My first psp (the phat model) got drilled with a football with no defects :) Hehe, guess I was lucky. I just put it down so it wouldnt get hurt and first thing that happenned was that.
I've handled and own both the original and the Slim, and the Slim definitely feels cheaper and more flimsy. I can actually bend the Slim slightly, and it makes creaking noises if you put a little pressure on it. I don't know if it's actually so cheap and flimsy, but structurally, it isn't as solid as the original for obvious reasons. The screen also seems to scratch more easily. I've dropped the original on concrete a couple times from a height of about 5ft and aside from a few minor cosmetic damages, it works perfectly, and it's a launch day PSP to boot.
Just take good care of it and you should be fine.
I couldn't help but notice some people in a filipino forum dissing the Slim saying that it's so cheap and it has a high risk of breaking. I also read this in an article: http://winterheim.wordpress.com/2008/02/12/durability-psp-phat-vs-psp-slim It kinda makes me sad when they tell me that my Slim will break sometime in the future like disfunction or something. I mean, I haven't heard any problems from most of the people in this board. So, why is it that they think the Fat is better than a Slim and is the Slim a ticking time bomb meant to break? Please ease my mind because I've had my Slim for 8 months already and what they're saying is starting to get in my head... (~_~)Francision69
It all depends on how well you take care of your items. Buy some psp accessories to protect your psp like casings, lcd protectors and others. And of course as much as possible don't drop them.

i got my phat psp 2 years ago used and is still great except for a lost pixel... which you never notice.
But most of them are saying that the PSP Slims internal hardware could fry over if you over use it. I don't get it... It's not about the way you handle it, it's what's inside internally... That's what they keep saying and I don't believe them.Francision69I've had a fair number of multihour gaming sessions on my Slim with no ill effect; I don't buy it.

Dude, I ran a game at 333mhz for around 3 hours straight playing with full volume and hooked up to a plug to keep the battery up and nothing happened. Those guys are just acting stupid.

I bought a used one, but I knew it would only be about 4 months old, since the slim had only been out that long. Nothing wrong with it except it was unboxed, not bad considering it was like 40 pounds (80$) less.
The guy said it would probably fry the PSP Slim if you use it for 24 hours... Can anyone confirm this?Francision69I've never used one for 24 hours straight, but I have for over 12 hours with no problems. Barring any sort of, you know, proof, it sounds like a load of crap to me.
mine is a phat, and the only droping it suffered was because I lend it to a friend on a field trip
I don't know, the slim does feel cheap cause is lighter and the glossy plastic doesn't help much either, but is not like it is going to break into pieces. I want one, so I can take it anywhere more freely (most of the time I carry my fatty on a backpack, with its customized logitech case of course), the damn thing wont fit in my pocket, hope the slim does
just get a hard case and it will be fine
Same issues with the PS2 slim, right? If you play like there's no tomorrow then there will be really complications. It's slim and it doesn't have enough air vents, you know? Same goes with the PSP Slim, I guess.
The idea is kinda creepy too. I don't want my PSP to be broken in the next month or something.
Every machine is supposed to break soon. Otherwise, they'll be another great depression, when people don't want to buy merchandise anymore cause they have their own in their homes.Benjamin-T
thats false logic man. EVERY machine? no, a company makes products to make customers happy and make money. Companies like Sony dont make alot of cheap stuff that is expected to break in less than a year. Thats why they give you a 1yr waranty. After the year is up, they can make $ IF they need to repair it. Most technology today is not "supposed to break." I know for a fact that compaies would rather their product not break. If a company made something that was "supposed to break soon" then they would go out of business very quicky due to unhappy customers. Word-of-mouth travels VERY fast.
I'm telling you, they have been doing this for a while now. They used to do it sturdy, and that contributed to the great depression. For example, a person has a fridge, a good sturdy one to boost. That person will not buy another fridge, because his fridge is still good. So the fridge company loses money and a customer. People will save their equipment instead of throwing them away, since it is a known fact that the majority of people in any nation are in low income, and saving money to not buy equipment hurts the company and ultimately puts it out of business.
