Hey guys, I've recently thought about buying a PSP, ipod touch, or DS. I use to have the DS with just one game, and I didn't like it very much. It just felt very cheap to me, even the games. They do produce great games though, I know, but is it enough to warrant a purchase over a PSP? Ipod touch now seems overpriced and I want more to do with games.

I got ~200$ to spend, so I'm looking into a PSP. Is the web browser bad? How does it fair against others in the same price range?

I enjoy games like FF7: CC, God of War C.O.O., etc. etc. I'm also looking forward to the new FF coming out for it.

Is it a good time to buy a PSP now or is there a new version coming out? (heard rumours about a psp 4000 coming out before christmas).

Thanks!

$200 would buy you a 360,

i'm not recomending anyone to buy a handheld right now because a new nintendo or sony portable should come out soon.

i'll be waiting :P

hey you stole my pic :( ah well i was gonna change soon anyway. edit: there its braid :) any way ya i say get a psp but maybe wait just a lil bit for fixing the the screen. but i personally think it would not be smart to wait like two months. because even if psp 4000 came out. youre gonna be without a psp for 2 months just for a couple features ?

Funny, I made a thread like this in the X-Box forums & got a warning for being "off-topic" because one stupid **** had to come along and **** for whatever reason. Yeah, I'm ****ing about that in your thread, because I just got done reading my "warning". Sue me.

At any rate, go ahead and buy the PSP now. Chances are that they're going to come out with a better/newer model a few months after you buy it, anyway. Until they throw in a portable jet, I would say that all the system upgrades are pointless. In a few months (even if you wait and buy the newest one) your version will be obsolete anyway.

For someone who doesn't own a handheld, I would recommend now to get the new PSP Brite which has the most features of a PSP. The Web Browser isn't stellar but for very basic things (minus streaming videos) it gets the job done fairly. Best web browser would the iPod Touch's (Of course I think Opera Mini on my Nokia N95 is better) and the worst one would be the DS's (the only one you have to pay for).

You can also wait for the DSi which should come out around next summer which as you would know has loads of features aswell (much less then PSP thought) and will have the same web browser as the other DS but for free.

Right now get a PSP Brite if you really want a handheld, it has already a big librairy of successful games like God of War, Locoroco, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and Daxter. Plus Sony updates it's firmware regurarly and just recently you can now access the Playstation store directly from the PSP itself and that gives you many free demoes, wallpapers, themes and music. But also from there you can buy Online exclusive PSP games, UMD games directly to your Memory stick (games that were originally on disc but now on the online store) and even some PS1 classics!

Yes the PSP is a great handheld and the DSi will also sport it's own online store. I tell you, it's a great time to own a handheld today and thank God we live in it.

If by now you can't tell, I'm a Handheld *****. Go get a PSP Brite my friend!

The PSP is a nice little handheld-if you've got the money to spend, why not treat yourself to one? As for your concerns... Web browser: It's okay, but it's nothing compared to Safari Mobile on the iPod touch, Opera Mobile 9.5 on any touchscreen Windows Mobile device, or any of Nokia's Internet Tablets. One of the problems is that you can't zoom in or out of the page, so you'll have to scroll around a lot to find what you want. Still, the included NetFront browser is a lot better than the apps they dare call Web browsers on your typical dumb phone nowadays. PSP revisions: Look at the PSP-3000/Brite's screen and see if there are any interlacing scanline artifacts that may irritate you. If so, you may either want to consider one of the older (and cheaper) models, or wait a bit to see if they'll fix the problem or not. If it doesn't bother you, go for it!

The Internet on the PSP is terrible it's slow and you can't view your email (I use gmail I don't know about the other email services) the iPod touch's internet is much better. Also an iPod touch is like.. 8 gigs right? a decent memory card for a PSP is quite hefty too..

so I say go for the iPod it's more memory, better internet, plays music and videos but it just doesn't have any games(it just has those crappy app games)

It depends on what you want. The PSP is a great game machine with lots of multimedia capabilty. The iPod Touch is a great multimedia machine which may be able to play games. The DS is a good game machine with little multimedia capability.

The problem with the PSP is that it's not getting anywhere near as many games as the DS. It's hardware is much more capable though and I like the PSP games much more than the DS. Plus when I'm not playing games I can use it to watch movies or play music. The PSP web browser is functional but nowhere close to PC browsers or even the iPod Touch.

The iPod is a great music/movie player and from what I've read has a great web browser. Games....well I'm not so sure. Sure it can do puzzle games and stuff that use the accelerometer but there's few games for it right now. It's biggest hurdle is lack of dedicated controls. Sure you can make virtual buttons on the screen but I'm not sure how well that'll work. Time will tell.

The DS is kicking the PSP's butt (I'm sad to say) and it does have some games that I'd like to play. It's also getting a lot more releases than the PSP but that's both a blessing and a curse. Some games are great but a lot are junk. It all depends on whether you like the DS library. (BTW...there is a new DS coming out so now is a bad time to get one....unless you want one with the GBA slot).

I dont know much about the ipod touch,

but i think it does not a machine that design for playing game.

If you really want to play game PSP should be far better.

However the web browser in PSP is not good.

This machine has less RAM (about 30MB in modern PSP version).

That can be use for almost of normal webpage, but has a lot of problem when using of

page that has complex script, many picture or video content .

I would say, if you strongly want a handheld game machine, PSP is very suitable, buy it.

I find the PSP if by far the better choice. Not only can you play awesome games (not only the kid and brain games on the DS) but you can also listen to music, view pictures, view videos and go on the internet. I'll admit the PSP web browser isn't all that good but anyway, if you have a wireless internet connection, why aren't you on your computer ;)?

Yeah. DS has great games.

I would recommend buying a PSP because of its great lineup for next year (not to mention all the great games it has now). DS is a great system but I haven't enjoyed it as much as my PSP. The Ipod Touch isn't bad because you can do a lot with the Apps but it is a better music device than a portable system.

I dunno about you but it think the psp games have gone a bit crap recently. I've had a psp since they first came out and tbh i don't use it much. The music transfer and playback is alright but It's nothing compared to the ipod. The ds is the worst handhold me and my sister had one back in the day but soon traded them in for psp's. The psp has some decent games on it and is alright but I defo don't use it as much as my i-pod. I say grab yourself a ps3. They're well worth the money :)

I don't go online with my PSP I only use it for games...and I'm still glad I bought it. I have some awesome games for it. Right now I'm playing Jeanne D'ARC...I don't know why I didn't get it when it first came out. I also have; FF:CC, Patapon, Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, FF: Tactics, and Daxter. I'll be getting FF: Dissidia, FFXIII: Agito, Patapon 2, Prinnies: Can We Really be Heroes?, and finally Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. Really glad I have a PSP.
