If it magically could make a cure for cancer, would´nt some cancer researcher buy tons of PS3´s and make them do all the research?

Where did it ever say folding WILL cure cancer. lol I laugh at people who think that this is a miracle program that will solve the meaning of life :P It will help to go through all that information so that they MAY find the cure, but nowhere does it say it will... Its good that you are running it and I dont think that you are wasting time by doing so, how many people actually run it on their time and watch the dots on the globe? I think more people run it at work and when their ps3 is not in use, so in reality no one is wasting their time...

No good and no good...
They have X calculations that they need to do. Each of these may help or they may not help, and when they are calculated, we know if they was any help or not.
The thing is, once they are calculated, it´s no need to recalculate them, so they don´t need to waste any time to calculate them.

So it is helping but nothing says that it will help them...

No Research is "no good". Even research that doesn't lead to a cure will help as you'll know what not to look for. Duh.

You do know what the purpose of folding is right? Well you're literally "folding" proteins into their native state based on a series of algorithms. By deducing the structure of a protein we can infer its function. So the more protein structures we uncover the more we will know about their function.
