I've been searching the web for any info on whether or not a new psp system will be released. The GO has mixed reviews and I have an old PSP 1000. I'm trying to decide if I should get a GO or just wait for the next PSP to hit shelves. Do you fine folk have any info on a new PSP around the corner?

Rumors is all. I've been waiting on a new PSP for years now. I have over 10 PSP games in my collection that I've yet to play, all because I'm waiting for the "definitive" PSP handheld.

I say wait for the next REAL PSP unless you need an ipod touch without the app store that can play games, But if you like me and sick and tired of the lack of shooters and adventure games with actual shooting then wait for the next one that should have 2 analog stick with all the moaning people are doing. If Sony bas learnt anything from the PS3 is that you can't stick on the Sony name expecting everyone to buy something that is either garbage or the PS3 overpriced. The next PSP is rumoured to be announced this summer at E3 but if they do, do that then i would expect it to come out during the christmas season or the next christmas season

psp phone is what sony is doing next so no i dont think theres goin to be a 2 ,there doesnt need to be ,

the graphics are on par with ps2 putting 3ds slightly ahead ,, there isnt much room for handhelds to go ,,

if you look nintendos finally able to get a battery that is on par with ds if not better whislt using psp/gc like graphics

if sony went and made a ps3 like handheld -guess whAT you can expect over heating -price jumps and lower battery life then the current psp ,.

they would again put them selfs in position to lose

After seeing Sonys big flop with the PSPGO I don't think they'd release a new console. But then again, what do I know?

Everyone should read this! All we can do is speculate, because I am sure none of us posting on this board have a connection inside of Sony...

No idea. I hope so, but quite frankly I'm not optimistic. The DS is kicking the PSP's butt. Sure, the PSP is the first/only handheld to survive against the mighty Nintendo handhelds but I don't know if that's enough for Sony to put more money into it. Especially when you consider that Sony's strategy is "razor blades" while Nintendo's is "profit first". Nintendo makes a profit on every DS sold. Sony is probably losing money on the PSP and expecting to make it up on game commissions.

Compounding this is the massive runaway success of the iPhone. Apple has offered an alternative approach to making money via a handheld. Nintendo says that they aren't worried and with their sales they probably aren't....much. They've got to be a little nervous though.

All we have is rumours. So those who are saying Sony are doing a PSP phone and will ditch UMD's, where are you hearing this from? Because it isn't true. As for people saying buy an iPhone and wait for the PSP2 that may be the stupidest advice I've ever heard. Touch screen is rubbish for gaming. You don't get the feel and level of control that buttons and the analogue stick offers.

Once again, I seem to have found someone in here with sme sort of intelligence. This speculation is over the top and annoying. I forget who made the post, but some one above here called the UMD crappy. Please explain why a UMD is crappy. I think they are great for portable gaming. I will also admit that I do not like the GO, 16 gig internal memory? what good will that do anyone?

There always is a new PSP coming... Since 2005 There are 4 PSP versions of the "Same" handheld with "just about PS2 power" The PSP is almost a portable PS2. The 1000, 2000 and 3000 and even the PSP Go. Are still at the PS2 level.

A new PSP 2 should be a techno leap forward withalmost/or 75%PS3 Power and outdo the Ipad for gaming. Sony should just concentrate on making a great gaming device. Whipping Nintendo and Applein the process....

Damn, if there's going to be a PSP "2", I hope they actually do something about those crappy UMDs.meconate

WHAT ARE YOU talking about? Havent you seen the pspgo? it doesnt have a umd drive. and that is NOT an improvement at all..... probably because there's nothing crappy about umds. If i want to get cheap psp games why should i have to wait til sony drops the price on the playstationstore? I have several awesome psp games that arent even on the playstation store yet (or may never be put on there). and i can sell, trade, or lend out to a friend. Can u do that with the psp go? an iphone? NO? oh thats too bad.

and to the TC, there is NO ACTUAL word on a new psp coming. there are only rumors and little more than that for a psp phone (which will probably be an attempt to compete with the iphone, but a bad idea IMO). If you want a psp, just buy one now, but dont get ripped off on a pspgo, iphone, or dsiXL. the standard psp is the best choice by a mile.

I think people have been spoiled by blu-ray. Don't expect UMD's to have 50 GB of storage on them folks. I love UMD's because of how dinky they are :) Also the fact that I can buy them dirt cheap and can sell them or trade them in.

He meant, use a storage device other than UMD. Like... cartridges?

Cartridges? Isn't that taking a step backwards? The Mega Drive used cartridges and that was hardly a graphics powerhouse. The DS uses cartridges and the PSP uses discs. This means the PSP games can have much improved graphics (look at Chinatown Wars) and much bigger games. There must be a way to increase the capacity of UMD. Maybe make them dual layer or something.

Do you also love the fact that they break so easily? The amount of times we've had UMDs that get brought in with cracks on the case and seals caved in. I don't mean the idea should be scrapped altogether, but they can improve them, Sony are just too damn lazy to do so.

meconate

There's a simple solution to that: look after them. They're just as prone to breaking as regular CD's and DVD's. If you manage to break it, even with the disc inside a protective case, then that's your fault. And if the case on the UMD should break you can buy replacement ones online for about £1 each.
